Will Chalay Thay Saath end the dry spell in Pakistani cinema?

With there being no single hit film, the past few months have not been great for the Pakistan film industry. A total of 4 major releases; Thora Jee Le, Balu Mahi, Whistle, and Raasta, out of which Balu Mahi and Raasta were expected to standout, but failed.

Indian movies too, since the ban lift, have not been able to create the magic with big movies like, Kaabil, Jolly LLB 2, and Badrinath ki Dhulania, not even crossing 5 crore mark at the local box office.

Chalay Thay Saath is the next big Pakistani movie up for release, boosting up with a good star cast featuring names like, Syra Shehroz, Behroze Sabzwari, and Zhalay Saharhadi among others. The movie was first announced to release on 7th April 2017, but was later moved to 21st of the same month. This new date, from commercial perspective, does not sit well as Fate of The Furious (Fast & Furious 8) is coming out on 14th April.

Fate of The Furious is expected to be a big ticket movie with a brilliant initial and also an at least two-three week’s box office rule on cards. This is because Fast and Furious 7 is the only Hollywood movie which has done a business of around 25 crores in Pakistan, which shows how big can the next installment be.

Fate of the Furious comes out on 14th April, and most of the cinemas have already started advance bookings for the movie. Half the shows have already been sold out, and the first weekend of the film will, as expected, be sold out in the advance bookings done by hardcore fans of the franchise. The second week/weekend, however, will be for all the on spot movie bookings.

Even with the fever coming down a bit in the second week/weekend, most of the prime time shows, across almost all cinemas are expected to remain with Fate of the Furious. In comes Chalay Thay Saath, left with a rather shrunk audience.

Chalay thay Saath is appealing mainly to the multiplex audience, with good word of mouth being its main driving force. Fate of the Furious may just take away much of its limelight, but we hope that our own emerges triumphant despite all the odds being against it.

I am a complete movie buff, who not only watches a lot of movies but also considers all other factors involved in making movie a success story. Movies are my passion and analysing them from all aspects is what I love doing.

  1. Totally agree with this piece. It seems like the producers of Pak movies don’t do their homework well enough, you’ve clearly pointed out a major loophole, which the production house should not have overlooked by any means.

  2. Such a great article analysing and pointing the major challenge that lies in the path of chalay thay saath. Looking forward to more articles from the writer ??
