5 Pakistani films to screen in India at South Asia Forum for Art & Culture heritage

The way Indian films are exhibited in Pakistan, it is sad that the distributors and exhibitors on the other side of the border fail to reciprocate it for Pakistani films. Well, if you are living in India, and feel strongly about this, no need to be sad as South Asia Forum for Art and Creative Heritage (SAFACH) is exhibiting five Pakistani films in New Delhi, India this month.

It is a moment of pride for Pakistanis too, as five of their blockbuster films, including Jawani Phir Nahi Ani (JPNA), Punjab Nahi Jaungi, Na Maloom Afraad, Na Maloom Afraad 2, and Actor in Law have been selected to screen at the prestigious forum.

SAFACH, Art, and Pakistani Films

The South Asia Forum for Art and Creative Heritage is a platform that celebrates the best of Asian cinema each year. This year, SAFACH will run from December 10 to 16, and among other films from all over the region, will screen five Pakistani films too.

The good thing about the selection is that all the five films have been among the top box-office performers, and will cater well to the more commercial taste in India.

Films that have Screened in India

While numerous Pakistani films have screened at different Indian festivals in past, it was Shoaib Mansoor’s Khuda Kay Liye in 2007, which officially and commercially made it to Indian theaters after a long hiatus.

This was soon followed by films like Bol and Ramchand Pakistani that also managed to grab a lot of Indian attention.

The biggest of all was the theatrical release of Humayun Saeed and Mahira Khan starrer Bin Roye in 2015. The film was released on 81 screens across India and managed to hold its foot despite facing tough competition from Bajrangi Bhaijan.

It is pertinent to mention here that for Actor in Law (one of the movies at SAFACH), this is not the first outing in India. The film was previously screened in Mumbai in the honor of its late cast member Om Puri. It has also been showcased at a film festival in Rajasthan.

Besides all these films, it is also relevant to mention here that Ali Zafar and Maya Ali starrer, Teefa In Trouble, also recently released on Netflix India.

We congratulate the people behind these films and wish them all the best for the screenings.
