Biopic on Late SSP Chaudhry Aslam is in the making, but will it do justice?

Ch Aslam film

The Late SSP Chaudhry Aslam was that iconic figure of Karachi police whose life saw it all, action, thrill, and tragedy. His tough acts against criminals brought him to the limelight that attracted both, praise from the public, and hatred from a lot of other circles. In short, his life had every element needed for a good movie. And that, it has finally got.

Around five years after the tragic death of Karachi’s man of action, there is a biopic on him titled, Chaudhry, in the works and it has already passed through its pre-production phase. Aslam was assassinated in 2014 when a suicide blast hit his convoy passing through Lyari Expressway. Aslam’s life was such that there have been several attempts to bring it on screen ever since his sad demise.

The Camera Opens

The first shooting spell of Chaudhry has already begun in Karachi, and the film is said to have the right mix of ingredients. Model-turned-actress Zara Abid will start her Lollywood innings alongside Zohaib Khan with the film, while the lost actress Jia Ali, will also be seen essaying an important role in it.

Zara Abid

Zeeshan Junaid writes Chaudhry while Azeem Sajjad is directing it. Sajjad’s last outing, 8689, faced dry weather at the box office despite having the star power of Saba Qamar.

Trivia

  • Just a couple of months before the fatal attack on Chaudhry Aslam’s life, his colleague in Sindh Police, Omar Shahid Hamid, published a novel titled, The Prisoner. According to Hamid, he had based the main character of the book, Akbar, on Chaudhry Aslam. Prisoner became a best-selling novel in Pakistan.
  • Back in 2014, a couple of months after Chaudhry Aslam’s passing away, producer Azaan Sami Khan (O21) was said to have acquired the film rights of The Prisoner. Nothing further, however, has so far been heard of the project.

We, at Galaxy Lollywood, had a candid chat with the leading lady of the film, Zara Abid, and here’s what she had to say on her experience of the film:

“Chaudhary happened all of a sudden. I got a call from the makers, offering me the part and it was an instant yes for me after the first narration. I play a college student; it’s a meaty role with a good length and sufficient margin to perform.”

“I have been fond of acting and dancing. I want to remain versatile as a performer rather than being recognized by one genre. I am excited to see the audience’s reaction to my work as an actress. People recognize me as a model, so that remains my base but it’s great to see many television actors and models making their way into films. Lollywood has always been a steady stream of amazing talent. Therefore, I feel it’s the right time for me to enter the industry,” Zara further added.

A Path to Tread Carefully

Chaudhry Aslam is an iconic subject. If given the right treatment, it can match any crime-thriller out there. It’s a big responsibility that Azeem Sajjad has taken on his shoulders, and only time will tell if he lives up to the merit of the subject.
