‘Wrong No. 2’ to clash with ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ this Eid-ul-Fitr

Wrong No. 2 release date

One of the most awaited comedies of the year 2019 is Neelum Muneer and Sami Khan starrer, Wrong No. 2. The good news for its fans today is that the film just got its first look poster along with the announcement of its release date.

Releasing on Eid-ul-Fitr 2019, Wrong No. 2 is going to be Yasir Nawaz’s third directorial project on the big screen (Wrong Number and Mehrunnisa V Lub U, previously) and is set to clash with the upcoming titan of Pakistani cinema, The Legend of Maula Jatt.

From the first look poster, we can assume that the movie will have a fresh outlook, or at least, better packaging than its prequel. We also hope that the film will have more significant entertainment quotient because that’s what the makers and cast of the sequel have been continually claiming in various interviews.

Wrong No. 2 will also see Javed Sheikh, Danish Nawaz, Nayyar Ejaz, and Ahmad Hassan in key supporting roles.

But Why Against Maula Jatt?

Now we realise what you are thinking! The chronic tendency of Pakistani filmmakers to overcrowd Eid festivals with their releases and the resultant division of audience and revenues.

To get the answer of the same query, we contacted Hassan Zia, co-producer Wrong No. 2 and asked for his rationale behind releasing their film against a film that’s possibly the most anticipated film of the year. Here is what he had to say:

Wrong No. 2 is an all-out comedy while Maula Jatt is a hardcore action flick. We are targeting a more family audience. It was pretty much the same with our first film that clashed with films of entirely different genres such as Bajrangi Bhaijan and Bin Roye. The same went for Mehrunisa V Lub U and Yalghar.”

“I think it’s a cinematic tradition in Pakistan where a quintessential family comedy is always a welcome addition to the Eid line-up. Therefore, I think both the films will benefit each other and might even benefit from the overflow of each other’s target audience,” Zia further added.

What if it Gets Fewer Shows?

Answering the query that their film might receive a fewer number of shows as compared to The Legend of Maula Jatt, just like it happened with Load Wedding last Eid, Zia Said:

“There is a possibility, but it’s a remote one. I don’t think any other film besides Maula Jatt is slated for the same date. One possible contender is Wajahat Rauf’s film, but since our distributor is the same (Distribution Club), they will most likely not release that film on Eid. According to our distributors, Wajahat’s film might get pushed to 19th July.”

He also ruled out the possibility that Salman Khan’s Bharat might even be one of the Eid releases. This is because the two-week festival space is reserved just for local films.

All that Matter is Content

Hassan Zia continued to state that “At the end of the day, it’s your content that matters. We got 60-80 shows for the Wrong Number while Bajrangi Bhaijaan had 150 or more shows. Despite that, our film worked well in the long run.”

But Sami Khan VS. Fawad Khan?

The next question we had in our mind was that will Sami Khan be able to hold his fort against the mighty Fawad Khan? Hassan Zia believes he wouldn’t need to.

“Comedy films aren’t necessarily star-studded. Where Neelum and Sami may be doing the lead roles in WN2, actors like Javed Sheikh, Mahmud Aslam, Shafqat Cheema, along with Danish Nawaz, and Ahmad Hassan are also playing key roles in our film. The supporting cast is playing quite strong characters, and people will like it.”

It was also exclusively revealed to us that the trailer of the film will be released in April, followed by its promotional campaign.

We hope Eid-ul-Fitr doesn’t get any more crowded than this and that it is a smooth sail for both local films on box office.
