Osman Khalid Butt and Sohai Ali Abro’s ‘Surkh Chandni’ to finally go on air

Surkh Chandni

The news of Sohai Ali Abro coming back on TV had broken out last year. The drama, based on the life of an acid attack survivor, was titled Surkh Chandni and was set to be Sohai’s first project after her movie Motorcycle Girl.

But, there had been nothing substantial on the project (except for Osman replacing Sami Khan) after those initial reports and the drama was sort of stuck in limbo since November. Well, the update is that the airing date has finally been set and we have gotten the exclusive scoop on when’s that happening.

On Air in April

Produced by Sana Shahnawaz and Samina Humayun Saeed, and directed by Shahid Shafat, the drama will go on-air on ARY Digital in April, as revealed to us by the producer Sana Shahnawaz.

In an earlier interview to Something Haute, Sohai had revealed that there was still some shooting left to be done for the project. It seems that the leftover part has finally been completed now as the drama is ready to go on-air next month.

Apart from the show’s lead pairing of Sohai and Osman Khalid Butt, the drama boasts of a stellar cast with names like Asad Siddiqui, Mansha Pasha, Rashid Farooqi, Lubna Aslam, Huma Nawab, and Hasan Ahmed. With Asma Nabeel writing the script, the drama already has plenty of reasons to be excited about.

A Social Issue Drama

Surkh Chandni aims to highlight the plight of the acid attack victims. It will bring the struggles they face on the screen and also shed light on the Acid and Burn Crime Bill that supports the victims of this heinous crime and ensures swift justice. In the aforementioned interview, Sohai had talked about why she had chosen Surkh Chandni.

“My character is a survivor, not a victim. The topic of acid-attacks is a globally prevalent issue and not just a Pakistani one. I believe as an actor, I have some social responsibility, but that is not solely why I took this project. I am an artist first, and I took this role because it challenged me as an actor.”

With such a strong team backing the project, it looks like this drama is definitely going to be one to watch out for. With it aiming to highlight the laws that support the victims, we say Surkh Chandni is a good addition to the list of many social dramas being produced nowadays.
