Box Office: Looks like we may have to bid ‘Project Ghazi’ goodbye

22nd March saw the release of two local films; Sherdil and Laal Kabootar. In the week following that, another local release – Project Ghazi – hit the cinemas on the 29th of March. The films, combined, have brought some much-needed footfall to the cinemas. Sherdil, since its release, has earned over 8 crores despite all the mixed reviews it got. Laal Kabootar, on the other hand, has hit almost 2 crores. As for Project Ghazi, well, the film has crashed badly (as expected) and has been able to gather 85 lacs only.

Project Ghazi

Project Ghazi, as per our predictions, could not do well on the Box Office altogether. The film earned approximately 70 lacs on the opening weekend while it could only gather 10 lacs yesterday. The numbers are abysmal and are a living testimony to the fact that the content has been rejected by the audience through and through.

Here is the detailed breakdown:

Friday: 30 lacs

Saturday: 25 lacs

Sunday: 20 lacs

Monday: 10 lacs (rough estimates)

Total: 85 lacs

The film, beyond any doubt, has crashed and looks like keeping our fingers crossed hasn’t really helped.

Sherdil

The film has been a box office marvel since the beginning. After having a wonderful first week, the movie entered the second week with a rather decent hold.

The break-down for Sherdil’s approximate box office collection, until now, is as follows:

Week One: 6.05 crores

Week 2 Friday: 50 lacs

Week 2 Saturday: 75 lacs

Week 2 Sunday: 55 lacs

Week 2 Monday: 22 lacs (Rough Estimates)

Total: 8.07 crores

As the numbers indicate, the film’s numbers have witnessed a fall on Monday but that’s understandable given there is less audience on weekdays anyway. The film is expected to reach the 8.5 to 8.75 crore mark soon, depending on how well it holds. The coming weekend, we have another Hollywood movie DC Shazam releasing. It’d be interesting to see how Sherdil performs amidst all of this.

Laal Kabootar

As for Laal Kabootar, the film has been doing decent business, given it banks on a niche and doesn’t have mass appeal elements like its competitor Sherdil.

The break-down for its approximate box office collection, until now, is as follows:

Week One (includes premiere shows): 1.29 crores

2nd Friday: 15 lacs

2nd Saturday: 22 lacs

2nd Sunday: 19 Lacs

Week 2 Monday: 9 lacs

Total: 1.94 Crore

Just like Sherdil, Laal Kabootar has seen a decline in Monday’s numbers but the fall is only 40% as compared to its 2nd Friday, which is very normal. Since we have DC Shazam coming on the weekend, it would be important for Laal Kabootar to hold rather well on the weekend. Fingers crossed.

We cannot vouch for the authenticity of these box office numbers given by independent box office tracking site EPK Pakistan However, until we have some official box-office tracking system in Pakistan this is all we have got. The numbers are also revised at times and hence you may observe fluctuations.
