Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2, more commonly known as JPNA 2, is a Pakistani romantic comedy film which was released last year, in 2018. The film is a joint venture of Salman Iqbal Films, Humayun Saeed and Shahzad Nasib’s Six Sigma Plus, and Jerjees Seja’s ARY Films (lots of big names, we know). The film is directed by Nadeem Baig and is a sequel to the 2015 film Jawani Phir Nahi Ani. It stars an ensemble cast comprising Humayun Saeed, Fahad Mustafa, Ahmed Ali Butt, Vasay Chaudhry, Kubra Khan, Mawra Hocane, etc. The film released on Eid ul-Adha on 22 August 2018. All the aforementioned facts point to a clear blockbuster and well, looks like that’s exactly what has happened.
Some background on the last year’s numbers
The film’s budget was 11 crores which is, frankly, quite a lot, given the usual numbers in Pakistan. However, JPNA 2 did not disappoint and ended its run, about ten weeks later, with record-breaking numbers. For the total gross, JPNA 2 crossed ₨ 68 crores out of which 51 crores was locally while 17 crore was from the international markets.
However, the film was re-released almost a month and a half back owing to the blanket ban on Bollywood content in the cinemas (they needed footfall so the re-runs are quite understandable). Today, it was announced that the film has now officially Pakistan’s highest grossing film with global box office business of 70 crores which honestly, is quite a feat. Parwaz Hai Junoon was also released for a re-run at almost the same time but JPNA 2 has clearly stood out with its numbers.
The news was announced by ARY CEO, Jerjees Seja, on his Instagram. The caption read, “News alert! The biggest blockbuster of all time #JPNA2 becomes the first ever Pakistani movie to cross Rs.70 Crores at the Global box office!”
Recently, Ali Zafar’s Teefa In Trouble hit the 50 crore mark too and honestly, we cannot be happier for our local cinema.
Humayun Saeed – Nadeem Baig duo
Such remarkable numbers are living testimony to the fact that the Humayun Saeed and Nadeem Baig duo can prove to be the real winners at the Box Office. We are going to call them the ‘blockbuster duo’ from now on and predict that their upcoming movies will be super successful at the Box Office.
Moreover, after the sinking ship that Humayun’s recent film Project Ghazi has become, this comes as good news for Humayun Saeed’s fans (the guy has still got it). Looks like the audiences still want to see Humayun’s films, it’s just that they will no longer tolerate subpar content. Another important thing to take into consideration here is that The Legend of Maula Jatt is all set to release this coming Eid and it would be interesting to see if the Bilal Lashari – Fawad Khan duo can compete with the Humayun Saeed – Nadeem Baig duo. We are just going to keep our fingers crossed.
