Amanat: A Different Take On Love Triangle

Amanat

‘Amanat’, one of the most awaited dramas of ARY Digital, aired last night. This play is written by Rukhsana Nigar, directed by Shahid Shafaat and produced by Six Sigma and Next Level Entertainment. The show has an ensemble cast including Imran Abbas, Urwa Hocane, Saboor Aly, Haroon Shahid, Gohar Rasheed, Asad Siddiqui, Babar Ali, Srha Asghar, Salman Saeed, Shehryar Zaidi, Saba Hameed, Zainab Qayyum and Saima Siddiqui.

Story

‘Amanat’s’ story has two parallel tracks. On one hand, the story follows the upcoming exchange marriage of Zarar with Zunairah, and Samra with Raheel, played by Imran Abbas, Saboor Aly, Srha Asghar and Salman Saeed respectively.

Zunairah is extremely rude, impudent and spoiled. Zarar is exactly the opposite of her; he is very caring and responsible. Zarar’s mother’s character is played by Saba Hameed. Unlike other dramas, she is playing the role of a good mother-in-law.

Junaid, played by Haroon Shahid, is Zarar’s younger brother. Junaid feels less-worthy in his family as he is often compared with his successful brother Zarar.

On the other hand, the story unfolds the unfortunate life of an orphan girl Maher, played by Urwa Hocane. Maher lives with her paternal uncle Furqan, played by Babar Ali, who is barbaric and ruthless. When Furqan forces Maher to marry his mentally unstable son Qaiser, played by Gohar Rasheed, Saeeda, Furqan’s wife, helps Maher escape with Saeeda’s nephew Fawad, played by Asad Siddiqui. Maher and Fawad marry and run far away from Furqan. Infuriated, Furqan vows to find them.

Rationality and Relatability of Characters

Zunairah’s character is completely unreasonable. This character is very much like Shiza from ‘Azmaish’, an ARY drama which recently ended. Zunairah behaves impertinently even without any reason. The writer showcases that upon breakage of a vase, Zunairah insults and even raises her hand on Junaid. Such extreme scenarios seem illogical. The majority of our current dramas entail an obsessive girl’s character who obsesses over a boy in the entire drama, whether it’s ‘Ishq Hai’, ‘Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay’, ‘Azmaish’, ‘Mere Apne’ and now ‘Amanat’. Even before marriage, Zuneera creates issues for Samra and Raheel. She even constantly argues with Zarar.

Additionally, despite knowing the barbaric nature of Furqan, Fawad takes Maher away. The writer has not shown as to whether Fawad is in love with Maher or not. That is why, although the story is interesting, it lacks rationality and relatability.

Performances

The majority of the cast comprises acclaimed actors, therefore, each performance in the show is worth praising. Starting with Gohar Rasheed, who is already ruling the internet with his spectacular performance in ‘Laapata’, gives yet another phenomenal performance as Qaiser. The challenging role of a mentally unable person whose mind is 20 years younger than his age, is remarkably played by Gohar. Babar Ali’s character is different from his previous work. He is playing a negative role in ‘Amanat’. His performance, in terms of dialogue delivery and body language, is highly gripping. Although Saboor Aly nailed the role of Zunairah, she is back with another negative character which the audience has already seen her perform.

Direction And Production

‘Amanat’ is a mega-project. This high budgeted production entails mega sets and locations. While the direction is not phenomenal, much attention has been paid to the camera resolution, picture quality and editing. Overall, the cinematography and splendid blend of colour schemes are eye-catching on-screen.

Conclusion

Although ‘Amanat’ is another love triangle. The popular actors, spectacular performances and mega sets will surely draw substantial viewership.
