Pakistan film industry has finally started moving forward after being stagnant for a very long period of time. The Karachi-Lahore fight between film-makers is slowly and gradually losing its strength, and film-makers are now just trying to make a good quality movie for the whole country instead of making it for only a particular market.
It doesn’t mean at all that all those “Low quality, Gujjar and Vulgar films” are now fully eradicated from the industry, but if this positive progress will continue in future as well then no doubt such films will quickly lose their place in the industry.
The change in the industry is very much linked with the change in society as well, this can be noticed by looking at the fact that film makers are now producing more and more films on societal & daily life issues in the country. Its actually a sign of a progressive society and is very important for a society such as our’s, because it tells people that there are still some loopholes in the society which still needs to be fixed.
From Shaoib Mansoor’s Bol to Steeve Moore’s Tamanna, most films are based on the untouched social topics of the country.
Long awaited Bol which is coming out in the month of April this year, is based on an issue related to every third woman of the country, in fact of the whole region. Similarly director Syed Noor’s two upcoming films Ek Aur Ghazi and Price of honour are also based on the two major issues of the country.
Aik Aur Ghazi will touch the sensitive religious topic related to “Blasphemy of Prophet (PBUH)”, while Price of honour is about the increasing but still untouched issue of honour killing in the country mainly in rural and remote areas.
On the other hand, seasoned director Jarrar Rizvi’s Son of Pakistan is again based on a major issue currently active mostly in Afghan-Pak region. Yes, its non other than the increasing “extremism and Talibanization” in the society.
Apart from this, director Steeve Moore’s upcoming film Tamanna, which stars legendary and one of the most experienced actors of Pakistan such as Feryal Goher, Salman Shahid, Omair Rana and many others, is basically going to deal with the topic of class snobbery, adultery and ego, which again are one of the shelved but mainstream issues of the society.
Folllowing is the complete list of announced and underproduction films, which in some way or other are linked with the social problems of the country.
Such films will not only open the closed eyes and minds of the society but will also give a new and fresh direction to the whole film industry.
Making such films is not at all an easy job, directors and producers put a lot of pressure on their shoulders to make such films, they take a very big risk by investing their time, money and most importantly reputation in such projects, its because these films push the certain barriers of the society. Bringing such topics in limelight also means that not all the people in the society are sleeping and there are people like Shoaib Mansoor, Steeve Moore, Jarrar Rizvi, Sabiha Sumar and many others who are contineously trying hard to wake others up.
In past films like Khamosh Paani(Silent Waters) and Khuda Key Liye (In the name of God) also dealt with one of such topics and got a tremendous success in the whole world, not only this, the work of makers of these films was also widely appreciated by majority of the people.
Such projects should be praised at all levels as they give us a chance to speak and think beyond the walls made of such untouched taboos of the society.

I really appreciate your article. However, these films must be released in good time frame. Otherwise they will not be able to bring Lollywood out of crisis. People want to see good movies on bold subjects now.
