Pakistani singer-cum-actor, Ali Zafar, who is nowadays enjoying the favorable reviews and decent box office performance of his recently released Bollywood romantic/comedy film London Paris New York; expressed his proud feelings over Pakistani journalist-director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s Oscar win for her documentary Saving Face.
Describing it as a ‘great feat’ for all Pakistanis, Zafar at an award function said, “We are very proud of the fact that a woman has got the first Oscar for Pakistan. Sharmeen got the first Oscar and I have personally had the pleasure of meeting her in the past and what a great achievement for all of us.”
Stanford University’s master degree holder in ‘International Policy Studies’ and ‘Communication’, Sharmeen is a Pakistani journalist and now an academy award-winning documentary filmmaker. She recently won Oscar for her short documentary on ‘acid attack victims’ (women mostly) in Pakistan and has also won an Emmy award in past for her 2010 released documentary, Pakistan: Children of the Taliban.
The Oscar-winning documentary of Sharmeen is releasing on 8th of this month and will be distributed by American entertainment channel HBO. Trailer is attached below.
