Humaima Malick: From Bol to Bollywood

We saw it coming when Lux Style and South Asian Awards declared her the best female actress for her mesmerizing performance in Shoaib Mansoor’s second directorial feature film, Bol.

One had expected Humaima Malick to get loads of offers from across the border and it wasn’t a surprise either when she finally selected Soham Shah’s Sanjay Dautt, Suniel Shetty and Vivek Oberoi starer upcoming Bollywood film Sher for her film debut in India.

Now widely known in the film circles of Pakistan and India; thanks to her award-winning performance in Shoaib Mansoor’s last feature film, Humaima Malick was constantly taking trips to India for last couple of months, we even saw the pictures of her visit to Ajmer Sharif and then of course a smart interview with Taran Adarsh, this was all in a bid to get a good launch in India, and we hope this will come with her debut Bollywood movie named, Sher.

Based on ‘Gujrat Underworld’, Sher is basically a period film and unlike in Bol, where Humaima played the role of a suppressed daughter of a conservative Muslim family, here she will be seen in a rather glamorous and a never seen avatar of her–a Bollywood actress.

Commenting on Humaima Malick in Indian media, director Soham Shah said, “Humaima is playing a prominent role in the film. She is playing a Bollywood actress. It’s a period film and she has got a glamorous look in the film unlike ‘Bol’,

Talking about the current status of the film, Shah said, “We have finished the entire shooting of the film and just two songs are left. They have to be shot with Humaima. This is not an item number, but the audience will see Humaima’s dance number in one of the songs,”

“We shot the entire film in July and August in Jaipur. It was a 50-day schedule,” added Shah, who has previously directed films like Kaal and 2009 Bollywood action-thriller, Luck.

With the whole shooting done and the film being in its final stages, Sher is said to release in the first half of 2013.
