Urdu Film Festival: Aperto Per le Iscrizioni Ora (Open For Entries Now)

Urdu Film Festival (UFFB)

Filmmakers-check, movies-check, cinemas-check, an Urdu Film Festival, Really? That too on an international platform-okay, not even the C of check. Isn’t it the icing on the cake that just when we have started getting quality local films in our cinemas, and a new life seems to have been blown into what looked to be an almost dead soul of Pakistan film industry, a festival gets announced, a much needed film festival dedicated solely to Urdu films, and the fact that it will be held on an international location, makes it even bigger. You ask why? Well, because this is what will hugely help the local film industry in marketing and propagating the national culture, our nerrative, Pakistan’s nerrative, outside our regular boundaries.

We believe…okay we will tell you what we believe after we give you the big news first.

So here it goes, Urdu Film Festival, scheduled for the dates of March 28th, 29th and 30th to be held in the city of Brecia, Italy, next year has finally opened its registration gates, and the cherry on top is that it will remain open till 30th of January 2014, giving the entrants an enough time to submit their softwares for what can be the gateway for them and their films to international arena.

Wajahat Kazmi, the festival director also informed us that work is underway on finalising Jury names too in the meanwhile, “the jury isn’t final yet as it requires a great, careful procedure involving few complications too, but I assure you, we are working on it with all our energies and there are certain names we are particularly focusing on, we hope to get done with it by November this year, which I beleive would be the right time to announce the jury considering our belief that the festival will manage to create a particular environment in Pakistan and the local circles of Italy by that time,” he said.

Now what we believe is that if this succeeds properly, remember we used the word ‘properly’, you will be looking at a big milestone not just for Pakistan film industry, but for our culture as whole too.
