With preparations for 8th annual ‘LUMS Film Festival (FiLUMS)’ in their full swing, reports regarding the star features for this year’s event have started pouring in. And just the very first one is a grand, positive development to hear about.

Starting from 7th February 2014, FiLUMS for this year has confirmed to have roped in long-awaited Mohib Mirza and Aamina Sheikh starrer, Kanebaaz, for its screening list. And it of course goes without saying that the movie will be one of the central features for the event this year.

Faisal Rehman as the gambling lord “Bawan Shah”

To screen on the second day of the event, Kanebaaz, directed by Ali Sade, will tell the tale of a street smart card player, Siddiq (Mohib Mirza), who quickly makes it big in the business by catching the eyes of the soft-hearted gambling lord Bawan Shah (Faisal Rehman). As soon as Bawan Shah recognises the talent and a pure heart of the boy, he includes him in his gang on a more personal than a professional job. This takes Siddiq on a unique journey that is both, dangerous and troubling on both personal and professional levels.

The selection of Kanebaaz as the ‘Premier Film’ of the event comes as an interesting choice as Seedlings, another Mohib Mirza and Aamina Sheikh starrer, held the same ground in the last edition of the event last year.

The movie has been in the prominence since early 2011, but for some unfortunate reasons hasn’t been able to make it to cinemas yet. Well, the other co-starring projects (Josh and Seedling: Lamha) of the star couple have been able to make not only a name for themselves in the local arena but have made a mark in the international scene as well. We would certainly wish the same fate for Kanebaaz as well.
