Waar was and is no doubt the biggest film standing in the record books of the country’s film industry, and it stands so internationally as well if numerically seen in comparison to the local norms. Biggest it might be, but if there is one film you can rate nearest to its aesthetics, intellectualism and public outreach, it’s got to be Shahzad Nawaz produced and Ismail Jillani directed Chambaili.
With that said, a Pakistani expat in UK or in fact anyone based there with a taste for Pakistani films couldn’t expect anything better coming out of Pakistan after Waar than Chambaili as its follow up. And Shahzad Nawaz did nothing less. He made it happen and Chambaili got its UK release (its first international as well) on 21st March 2014.
With a release in more than ten cities there, including in, London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Cambridge, Chambaili starring Shahzad Nawaz, Mehreen Syed, Salmaan Peerzada, Shafqat Cheema, Humayun Bin Rathore, Omair Rana, Maira Khan, and Ghulam Moyiuddin is serving its South Asian market fairly well. Not only that, the publicity through BBC and other major media outlets in the Kingdom also gave it a pretty good pre-release name there.
Although its hard to speculate how well the response to the film would roll out to be in terms of box office numbers, but with whatever success Waar got with its release there, one can safely say that there remains a big thirst for the quality Pakistani content and that Chambaili is a good enough product to quench it.
