‘Dukhtar’ release date gets postponed; Will not be hitting cinemas this Independence Day!

by Momin Ali Munshi

What do you think is common in all our Pakistani films these days? Yes, I know that almost all of them are backed by ARY Films but what else comes to your mind? Well there is one very important feature that distinguishes Pakistani films from all other films. This one aspect is almost a must, for a film to be termed as a Pakistani film.Stop scratching your heads as the answer to the question is that a film must have at least one postponement (more are always welcome) in its release date to be termed as a true Lollywood film!

Don’t agree with me? Let me take out my diary and give you some examples. “Waar” changed release dates almost every other month, “Zinda Bhaag” got postponed, so did “Tamanna”, “Bol” was moved quite a few times. Hell, the next big budget Pakistani film “Operation 021” has been postponed twice already! So now that this has been established let me move to the news.

Dukhtar, the film which won quite a few fans with its thrilling trailer, has decided that it wants to be a true blood Pakistani film and thus has moved its release date. The film, which was earlier all set to release on 14thAugust now will be releasing on September 18. Team “Dukhtar” announced this news via the facebook page of the film by putting up this quirky cover photo.

The photo claims that the makers have a very valid and interesting reason for this postponement. If you ask me, well I would say that both the dates (the original and the new postponed date) are trouble! While 14thAugust had the Bollywood biggie “Singham Returns” releasing which stars Ajay Devgan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, the new date has the Fawad Khan and Sonam Kapoor starrer “Khoobsurat” releasing which is bound to create quite a few waves in Pakistan as it stars the Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan .

All we can hope is that when the film releases on September 18, it gets the desired opening it very much deserves.

  1. You make it obvious the many reasons of delay of Pakistani films but you failed to mention the most important reason that local Pakistanis do not support their on films, they prefer to wait for it on TV or illegal downloading is a popular trend. Also we do not have a national distribution that takes care of marketing locality and abroad. Making a film in Pakistan is a challenge in itself so also to work to market & distribute it is a never ending pain. We continue to numb the intelligence of our movie audience with the cheap masala films from Bollywood, add now the men shirtless & the women scantily clad is a formula for a sex starved public.
