Making the Oscars cut: Which of these films do you want to see as the official selection from Pakistan? (Vote Now)

By Momin Ali Munshi

Remember how a month back the  Pakistani Academy Selection Committee announced that they were taking in films so that they could choose on one film that could be sent in as Pakistan’s official selection for the “Foreign Film Award”. 15th September was announced as the date the committee would announce  its nomination for consideration. Only three more days are left before the commitee announces it s decision but we at Galaxy Lollywood decided to give you fans a chance to vote and let us know which film do you want to see as Pakistan’s official selection for the Oscars.

Before we get to the options let us mention the rules /conditions that the films must satisfy to be considered. The rules are:-

1.The motion picture must be first released in the country submitting it no earlier than October 1, 2013,and no later than September 30, 2014, and be first publicly exhibited for at least seven consecutive  days in a commercial motion picture theater for the profit of the producer and exhibitor.

2.Films that, in any version, receive a nontheatrical public exhibition or distribution before their first qualifying theatrical release will not be eligible for Academy Awards consideration.

3.The recording of the original dialogue track as well as the completed picture must be predominantly in a language or languages other than English. Accurate, legible English-language subtitles are required.

4.The submitting country must certify that creative control of the motion picture was largely in the hands of citizens or residents of that country.

According to the date aspect we have five films that fit the bill:-

1.Waar 16 October 2013

2.The System 30 May 2014

3.Tamanna   13 June 2014

4.Sultanat  29 July 2014

5.Dukhtar 18 September 2014

But considering the language rule (#3) and creative control rule (#4) we think that Waar and Sultanat will be disqualified from the race. Anyhow thats up to the committee to decide but we give you fans a chance to make your voice heard and let us know which film do you want to represent Pakistan. So vote for your favorite film and come back here on the 15th to see which film did the committee actually select.

  1. It touches you with its gripping suspense and emotion, in a backdrop that is visually stunning in its beauty. A movie of Pakistan, for Pakistanis, by Pakistanis. And the music is awesome. It’s a complete package we can be proud of.
