‘Karachi Se Lahore’ trailer hits the comic bullseye

By Aayan Mirza

Although there is still some time for the actual product to be unveiled, but the recently released trailer of the upcoming film, Karachi Se Lahore, seems to have won the public already.

And why wouldn’t it, the film from the peek through it’s trailer looks to not only have a good portion of organic humour, but also some catchy music, an entertaining cast and an interesting enough plot. All the necessary ingredients to make it a potential blockbuster we say.

You don’t believe our word? No problem, watch the trailer yourself first and decide on your own.

Launched at the press event held at Karachi’s Pearl Continental last Saturday (25th April 2015), the trailer instantly had its space captured among the audience after its very first run. It picked the Pakistani cinema right from where Na Maloom Afraad last year had left it. And all the major credit for it to director Wajahat Rauf and writer Yasir Hussain.

Talking to the press at the event, Wajahat said, “Karachi Se Lahore is an original, very first in its league Pakistani road trip thriller. We have made it keeping in mind the rich culture that our country has to offer, and once the film releases, you will realise how true this film is to entire Pakistan.”

The writer Yasir Hussain, who will also be seen acting in the film, while expressing his views regarding the film said, “It took around two and a half years for us to put the script in its final shape, and I can say it with full confidence now that you will find it to be a breath of fresh air once you see it in cinemas later this year.”

Karachi Se Lahore - Cast and Crew

Also present at the event were cast members like Javed Sheikh, the female lead Ayesha Omar, the male lead Shahzad Sheikh, veteran Rashid Naz, Ahmad Ali, Mantaha Tareen and the child star Aashir Wajahat.

Javed Sheikh - Karachi Se LahoreJaved Sheikh while expressing his views on the film said, “When Wajahat approached me with his intentions of making a film, I was honestly a little sceptical and asked him how would he do it since his background is of television and film is entirely a different ball game. But when he read the script to me, I was instantly sold, right there, right at that moment, and I think he and Yasir have both done justice to it.”

Ayesha Omar, while giving her comments said, “We had a lot of fun shooting the film and as far as my character goes, I think she has multiple sides to her and almost everyone would be able to connect with her since she is so originally from one within us.”

Talking about her much buzzed dance number, ‘Tutti frutti’, Ayesha said, “It’s not an item number as people are terming it to be, I personally see it as just a performance based situational song.”

A further elaboration on it came from the writer Yasir Hussain, who said, “There isn’t a single song in the film that you will find out of the normal course of the story, they are all situational songs which unlike the item number concept of Bollywood, you will find to be picturised and performed on by the film cast.”

Well, item number or not, we are eagerly waiting for the film to come out on 31 July 2015 and hope it will be as good as its trailer.

Fact: Rana Kamran is the film’s Director of Photography (DOP), who in past has also captured the blockbuster hit Na Maloom Afraad.
