If you watched Karachi Se Lahore, a road-trip film by Wajahat Rauf, then you would clearly remember the character of Moti, a stammerer, who made you laugh your head off with his puns.
The good news is that Moti (Yasir Hussain) is ready to blow your mind again in the spin-off of 2015’s blockbuster film Karachi Se Lahore. The next project by Showcase Films has already been set in motion, as revealed by the producer and director of the film Wajahat Rauf in an exclusive talk with Galaxy Lollywood.
The untitled spin-off will carry the story on from where it ended in Karachi Se Lahore (KSL) and it will revolve around the character of Moti. Yassir Hussain is essaying the role of Moti again. The film will have most of the new characters and cast. Some of the actors from KSL might give special appearance but its details are yet to be finalized. The film will be another road-trip and it will be set in Punjab this time, Wajahat Rauf shared.
“The people who liked Karachi Se Lahore will love this one too and its kinda Karachi Se Lahore 2.0. It will be bigger and funnier”, said Wajahat Rauf.
On a question what did he learn from KSL experience, Wajahat Rauf said that, “a lot of learning actually. Mostly positive that people of Pakistan are very supportive. We were not bothered by anyone when we were shooting and the audience response in cinemas was overwhelming.”

KSL felt a bit dragged at points, which director also admitted as one of the shortcomings of the film. “Another learning from KSL was to start the action/story immediately rather than putting in scenes to establish the characters. Backstory of each character can be told in a different way.“, he further shared his learning experience from KSL.
So when we asked what will be improved in the new film, Rauf shared that, “the overall pace will be faster and we will have more crisp dialogues and bigger setup for the songs“.
The script of the spin-off, written by Yasir Hussain who also wrote the script of KSL, has been finalized and the film is going to hit the floors from January. The film is targeted for Eid-al-Azha release next year.
Yasir Hussain rose to overnight fame after exhibiting his strong acting and writing skills in Karachi Se Lahore. Since then he has been signed up for various big projects including writing the dialogues of Asim Raza’s debut film Ho Mann Jahaan. He is also writing the script of Fahad Mustafa’s first home production Band Tu Ab Baje Ga, a rom-com directed by Anjum Shahzad. With all these projects in his plate, Hussain is surely one of the busiest men in the industry right now.
Karachi Se Lahore, staring Ayesha Omer, Shahzad Sheikh, Yasir Hussain and Javed Sheikh, became the fourth highest grossing film of the year 2015. It was received well by the audience and termed as a laughing riot. Fresh comedy, young cast and diverse cultural flavor, the film had all the right ingredients. It also owns the credit of being the first Pakistani film to have its premiere in Hollywood.
