Box Office Update: ‘Sultan’ strikes gold, blowing away the only local release ‘Sawal 700 Crore Dollar Ka’

Last year two big Pakistani films ‘Bin Roye’ and ‘Wrong Number’ released on Eid-ul-Fitr and both of them made their presence strongly felt on the box office despite having tough competition from Salman Khan starer Bollywood film ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’.

This Eid only one Pakistani film ‘Sawal 700 Crore Dollar Ka’ could make it to the cinemas which, as usual, had to compete with this year’s biggie from Bollywood ‘Sultan’, another Salman Khan film. The film, as obvious from its bizarre title and trailer, was not one to make many excited for the local content and did little good to the new-age cinema in Pakistan. (More on it in Galaxy Lollywood’s official review of the film publishing tomorrow.)

Although the state of local film industry remained bleak this Eid but the cinemas in Pakistan had a phenomenal extended weekend as it registered the record breaking tickets sales and collections. The clear winner in the arena was ‘Sultan’ which minted 17.7 crore in five days, a record of its kind, with jam-packed shows across the country. The total number of tickets sold over five days was also unprecedented, crossing 0.63 million mark and setting a new benchmark.

On the other side, the only local release S7CDK tried its best to get a small share in the pie and collected around 1.2 crore only. These collections still look better than as compared to those of the many other films of the similar outlook released in the recent past. 😉

This Eid four Hollywood movies (mostly animated) also released which added little in the total box office collections of five days touching the whooping threshold of 22 crore.

Here is the five day collections of all films released on Eid.

  1. Sultan (Bollywood) – 17.7 cr
  2. The Legend Of Tarzan (Hollywood) – 1.35 cr
  3. Sawal 700 Crore Dollar Ka (Lollywood) – 1.2 cr
  4. Finding Dory (Hollywood) – 0.9 cr
  5. Ice Age 5 (Hollywood) – 0.6 cr
  6. The Secret Life Of Pets (Hollywood) – 0.2 cr
