Sohai Ali Abro to play “The Motorcycle Girl” in Adnan Sarwar’s next biopic!

Adnan Sarwar made a name for himself by making biopic ‘Shah’ (2015) based on the life of boxing champion Syed Hussain Shah. The low-budgeted film with no star power was highly appreciated for its message and bringing the story of forgotten hero to life. The gifted filmmaker is now gearing up for his next in the series of biopics, he dubbed as “Heroes Trilogy”, chronicaling the stories of people hailing from modest backgrounds and achieving big in life.

His next biopic is based on the boundary-breaking journeys of Zenith Irfan aka “The Motorcycle Girl” who, at age of 20, is thought to be the first Pakistani female to have made a solo motorcycle journey through the northern areas of the country.

Interestingly, Adnan Sarwar has roped in Sohai Ali Abro to play the lead character of Zenith Irfan in “The Motorcycle Girl”. This comes as a pleasant surprise as Sohai, who has done comical roles before, will be seen in a serious character in the film. She will return to the silver screen two year after release of Jawani Phir Nahi Aani.

To prepare for her role, Sohai will be learning how to ride a motorcycle and will making the same journey from Lahore to the majestic Khanjarab Pass that Zenith Irfan undertook in 2015.

“I feel that Adnan is such a sensitive and intelligent filmmaker and I truly believe in the kind of cinema he wants to create. When I saw Shah I just knew that I had to work with him someday and here I am”, said Sohai Ali Abro. “It is absolute honour to play Zenith in his film. The role of this incredible, empowered female is one that I can relate to and is close to my heart. I have always believed in the liberating the power of our women, especially considering the taboos we face in our society, and I am really happy that a lot of young girls would be able to look up to me for doing something positive and inspiring”, she continued.

Zenith Irfan’s multiple bike journeys (documented in her Facebook blog “1 Girl, 2 Wheels“) through regions of the country “where it’s taboo for women to venture out unaccompanied, let alone riding solo on two wheels”, have attracted worldwide attention and have been covered by publications such as CNN, New York Times and Vice etc.

The film will be an independent production made under the banner of Logos Films, the company behind the 2015 Pakistani biopic Shah. It is is being written and directed by Adnan Sarwar and is scheduled for release in winter 2017.
