We cannot vouch for the authenticity of these box office numbers given by independent box office tracking site Box Office Detail. However, until we have some official box-office tracking system in Pakistan this is all we have got. The numbers are also revised at times and hence you may observe fluctuations.
The ‘bulk release’ has become the new norm in Pakistan, as three films simultaneously released the past weekend again. Interestingly, all the films released on the long weekend, which fell on the Kashmir Day’s public holiday, have different genres. One of the films, ‘Maan Jao Naa’, is the romantic comedy, starring mostly young and new actors. The second release, ‘Gluco Allahyar and the Legend of Markhor’, is the animated film for kids. The third one, ‘Pari’, is the low-grade horror flick.
The four-day extended weekend turned quite prosperous for ‘Gluco Allahyar and the Legend of Markhor’. The animated movie opened nominally, raking in 35 lac on Friday. The film made the stupendous growth over the next two days when it collected 55 lac on Saturday and peaked at 68 lac on Sunday. The film held strongly on Monday, which was also the public holiday, minting 60 lac. The four-day extended weekend collections of the film tallied to impressive 2.18 crore.
‘Allahyar’ broke the record of the highest single day for an animated film in Pakistan. The record was previously held by ‘3 Bahadur’, which is also the release of ARY Films. Continuing at the same pace, the film is expected to become the highest grossing animated film of Pakistan soon.
As ‘Allahyar’ struck gold on the box office, the rom-com ‘Maan Jao Naa’ struggled on the extended weekend. The film opened decently on Friday with the collections of 30 lac. But, afterward, it fell and could not rise back. The film collected 25 lac on Saturday and Sunday each and bottomed to 20 lac on Monday. The four-day extended weekend collections of the film meagerly crossed the mark of 1 crore.
The lukewarm response the film received does not come as a complete shock, for the film mostly contained new and less known faces, lacked in the star power, and had little pre-release hype. However, if we compare the numbers of the family entertainer with those of an animated movie targetting the kids mostly, then the results really surprise us. The rom-com is beaten by the huge margin by the animated movie, ascertaining the fact that content is the king at the box office.
The last release of the weekend, ‘Pari’, could not perform well, as expected, and collected approximately 20 lac.
In a glance:
Four-day extended weekend collections of three films are:
- ‘Gluco Allahyar and the Legend of Markhoor’: 2.18 crore
- ‘Maan Jao Naa’: 1.0 crore
- ‘Pari’: 0.20 crore
