Not your mother's Maula Jatt.
Digging this revisionist, Spartacus-meets-GoT-esque take. And what a casting coup! Very intrigued to see Humaima & Gohar's tracks play out.https://t.co/aQ0xc90RMo— Osman Khalid Butt (@aClockworkObi) December 22, 2018

Indian journalist Jitesh Pillai, had this to say about the teaser:
Once upon a time not too long ago, a man made magic. Here’s the teaser of his film #MaulaJatt. #FawadKhan you are missed. And the magic continues. You are special too @TheMahiraKhan. Wish there was more of you in it?https://t.co/YLXCOgUe55

While many fans in Pakistan were happy, the Indian fans of Fawad and Mahira were although awed by the teaser, by seemed a little depressed that the film will possibly not be commercially releasing in India.
It's Really Sad That We Have To Tolerate Movies Like #Zero And couldn't Even Watch Something Different Like #MaulaJatt. Just Because It's a Paki. Movie, We won't be Seeing it.. When Our Movies Can Release there, Then Why can't theirs? #Fawadkhan #Mahirakhan #IndoPak pic.twitter.com/yjY1WSfAUL

The criticism
Where there was a lot of praise and excitement, there was no shortage of naysayers as well. While many people were criticizing the teaser for looking too similar to Padmaavat or being “a desi Game of Thrones,” others thought Mahira didn’t look the part.
The trailer of Legend of Maula Jatt has an English feel to it nothing like Punjab..
Except the Punjabi commentary …the looks of heroes, even their attires, customes and heroines there are no Punjabi Feel in it!!
Sorry I love Mahira but she got no Punjabi Mutayar looks— n.malhi (@mnMalhi) December 21, 2018
This new Maula Jatt is a story of the Western Punjab. No, not this one. The one in Roman Empire.
