Eid-ul-Azha has established itself as an attractive date for Pakistani film producers. Every year we see the biggest films clash on this festive date and while many run to packed houses, others are not so successful. Eid-ul-Azha 2019 seems to be no different as not one, not two, but three big Pakistani films are going to release on the date.
The real question, however, is that will it be beneficial for the film industry and cinemas or bring more harm than good for filmmaking in Pakistan in the long run.
Zarrar Set for Release on Eid-ul-Adha, 2019
Initially, it was Sheheryar Munawar and Maya Ali’s ‘Parey Hut Love‘ which was to release on Eid-ul-Azha. Then we exclusively revealed to you a few weeks back that the Humayun Saeed starrer ‘Love You Jatta‘ will also be releasing on the same date. Now, we have yet another exclusive that Shaan Shahid’s eagerly awaited ‘Zarrar’ will also be releasing on Eid-ul-Azha 2019.
Talking to Galaxy Lollywood, producer-actor Adnan Butt revealed that they had locked in Eid-ul-Azha as the final date and are hopeful that the audiences will like the film. Zarrar is a spy-thriller touching on 5th generation warfare and is directed by Shaan Shahid who also stars in the film alongside Kiran Malik, Nadeem Baig, and Adnan Butt in leading roles. The film has been shot in the United Kingdom, Turkey, and Pakistan
On being asked about the competition given two others films are also in the pipeline, Adnan added that he does not see it as competition, rather an opportunity for the audience to have a variety of genres to chose from next Eid. He added that Zarrar is a completely different film as compared to the other, and wished the other two film best of luck.
“I come Every Eid-ul-Azha”, Humayun
We rung up Humayun Saeed to get an update on ‘Love You Jatta‘ and also his take on this clash. Humayun also wished all the makers best of luck with their projects and said he is looking forward to seeing the films. He remarked that he has always been coming out on Eid and this time would be no different.
On the question that other two films have wrapped their shootings up and his is yet to go into production, Humayun replied that they will be announcing the female lead very soon and going on the floor early next year. He further added that they have planned the schedule and dates accordingly and will be editing the film alongside the shooting. Therefore, the Eid-ul-Azha release is definitely happening.
Paray Hut Love Called Dibs
Since Paray Hut Love was the first film to announce the Eid-ul-Azha release, we decided to talk to its director Asim Raza, who obviously didn’t seem much happy with the development. Asim said he cannot stop anyone from setting Eid as their release date, but that he had announced his plans way early in the hope that others would realise and not create a clash situation. He also urged for better planning on part of producers.
“Time and again, producers have had discussions in their forums about how if we get aware of another film planning to come out on certain days, then it is the duty of other producers as part of the same community to give support to each other,” Asim said.
“But I guess, as a nation, our biggest issue is what we preach is not what we practice, if I announced my film with its release date 13 months in advance, then there is very little that I can do to help the situation now,” Asim added.
Whether somebody backs out or not, only time will tell. Currently, there are three films in the pipeline for Eid-u-Azha, all backed by big names, and to be honest, we aren’t sure how this will play out at the box office. We, however, wish all the films best of luck and hope that their makers will lock heads, and sort the clash out.
