There was a time when celebrities were considered stars on the basis of how well they performed on screen, alone. With the omnipresence of social media phenomena such as Instagram and Twitter, fans can now follow the off-screen goings-on in their favorite star’s life ever more closely. And nothing quite gets praise, love, and approval from the stars’ fanbase than when their favorite celebrities give back to society through some social initiative.
Leading the charge as far as supporting charity and welfare-related causes are concerned are Mahira Khan and Mehwish Hayat, two celebrities who have proven that they not only win hearts on screen but that they are actually real-life heroines. And it is precisely for this reason that their star power has reached unparalleled heights.
Mahira Khan
Mahira Khan recently became the first Pakistani actor to hit 5 million followers on Instagram. Part of Mahira’s star appeal lies in her kind and a giving personality, something that is reinforced by the many social causes the star supports. Even though she has been a part of a lot of different charities, the one charity she is especially vocal about has to be Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital. As a part of the hospital’s fund-soliciting drive, the actress visits countries around the world such as the United States and UAE to appeal for funds at gala dinners. She was even appointed as the official ambassador of the hospital.
She also visited the Afghan refugees in Peshawar last year as a part of her UN delegation. Just recently, she was named the first-ever UNHCR National Goodwill Ambassador in Pakistan, which, needless to say, was an emotional time not just for her, but her fans as well. The Superstar star posted this eloquent message in her Instagram post…

Mehwish Hayat
Mehwish Hayat may have received a Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for her contribution towards Pakistani cinema, but her work towards servicing humanity is worth noticing as well. Recently the many causes she supports have come under the spotlight. The Actor in Law star became the talk of the town when she delivered a powerful acceptance speech after receiving a Pride of Performance award in Oslo this year. In that speech, she talked about how Bollywood has always shown Pakistanis in a negative way. Indo-Pak conflicts is a topic that many people are afraid publically broach, but Mehwish proved that she is an iron lady by talking about it in front of the whole world.
She also went on to become an official goodwill ambassador for girl’s rights by the Ministry of Human Rights. She shared the good news on social media and further added that she wants to see a Pakistan where all women are given the opportunity to get an education.
Delighted 2be appointed by the Ministry of Human Rights as Goodwill Ambassador 4 the rights of the girl child. This is something close to me & I look forward to actively raising awareness of the issues to be addressed. Lets give girls the better future they deserve @mohrpakistan pic.twitter.com/8mfApONGEW

By letting the world know about the many social initiatives she supports through social media, Mehwish Hayat has shown to her fans a side to her persona that was previously not known. She has gained much respect and admiration as a result, and many now consider the star not just a great actor but also a great human being who cares for her country and humanity at large.
It is heart-warming to see how both these actresses are making us proud by lending their support to such great causes. We wish them nothing but the best and we hope that they continue making us proud with their humanitarian services.
