There was a time when Mohsin Abbas Haider was the darling of the entertainment business in Pakistan. After getting noticed in different fields such as singing, acting, writing and hosting, it seemed like the multi-talented performer was going to be the next big thing.
Mohsin also starred in several hit movies such as the Na Maloom Afraad franchise and Baaji, and performed multiple ghazals, songs and naats during his time as the DJ in Dunya News’ talk show Mazaaq Raat. He went on to earn critical acclaim for his performances in dramas like Muqabil, Lashkara and Meri Gurya and was appreciated by music aficionados for his song Uddi Ja in Coke Studio season 9.
The big scandal
However, all of this changed on July 20, 2019, when his wife Fatema Sohail accused Mohsin of domestic violence during the time she was pregnant. Posting pictures of her battered and bruised face and body on her social media account, Fatema claimed that after she caught Mohsin cheating on her on November 26, 2018, Mohsin tortured her, and that he tortured her again on July 17, 2019.
She also claimed that he was cheating on her with upcoming starlet Nazish Jahangir. Fatema took matters into her own hands by filing a police report against him in which she alleged that Mohsin had threatened to kill her.
The news spread like fire on social media with a lot of celebrities extending their support to Fatema. Some celebrities also came forth as witnesses to this abuse. Celebrities also started distancing themselves from Mohsin and Dunya News announced that Mohsin will no longer be serving as the host/DJ of their talk show, Mazaaq Raat.
As of October 2019, Mohsin remains on extended bail.
His upcoming project
Last seen in Hum TV’s Deewar-e-Shab, Mohsin Abbas is gearing up for his upcoming single ‘Rooh’, which features music by Faraz Khosa. The actor shared the first look of the cover art of the song on his Instagram account with the hashtag ‘coming soon’.
Several celebrities like Noman Ejaz, Nimra Khan and Saqib Malik (who directed Mohsin in this year’s Baaji) congratulated Mohsin on his upcoming song and wished him the best. Mohsin posted their video endorsements on his Instagram account.
It would be interesting to see how the rest of the entertainment fraternity reacts to this news. And if he’s already reverting back to his profession, does this mean he will be appearing in dramas and movies in the future as well? Only time will tell!
