One of the most ambitious small screen ventures in recent times, Ehd-e-Wafa is set to premiere its finale episode in selected cinemas across the country. The Saife Hassan directorial joins the elite club consisting of Pyarey Afzal and Mere Paas Tum Ho which got their last episodes a big-screen release in 2014 and the current year, respectively.
The twist
The finale episode will be screened in cinemas a day prior to the satellite and digital release. While the drama will be concluded for regular television and digital audience on Sunday, 15th March, the cinema release is scheduled for a day earlier on Saturday,14th March.
The team has decided to do this to cash on the craze for the drama as it builds momentum towards what is expected to be a strong finale. The team also wants the cinema experience to be spoiler-free. A special announcement trailer will be released tomorrow (27th February) at 3 PM confirming this news. This is surely exciting news for Ehd-e-Wafa fans.
Win-win trend
Earlier this year MPTH received record-breaking advance bookings followed by an earth-shattering opening at the cinema houses across the country. Pyarey Afzal was also screened on a handful of screens and did well for its time. Now Ehd-e-Wafa is also expected to do well in its limited release.
It is interesting to observe that while all the big-budget Pakistani films are eyeing on the Eid release slot, owing to the industry’s obsession with festive weekends, it is television shows that have decided to cash in on the theaters in regular days. It wouldn’t be surprising even if Alif joins the bandwagon in the coming months. Alif has been shot on a film-camera and will be a treat for Hamza Ali Abbasi, Sajal Aly, and Kubra Khan fans if the team decides to follow the trend.
This trend is not just good news for the people involved but also bodes well generally for the film exhibition business, which is bound to experience increased footfalls because of the hype the show and its theatrical release is expected to attract.
Recently the drama has been trending on social media for a series of emotionally charged sequences such as the one between Shehryar (Ahmed Ali Akbar) and Khursheed (Muhammad Humbal) in jail followed by Saad (Ahad Raza Mir) and Dua’s (Alizeh Shah) Wedding. The next episode is also going to be high on emotions with Osman Khalid Butt’s Shahzain confessing to his grandfather regarding his mistakes.
Final verdict
Team Ehd-e-Wafa is also planning a special screening for the cast and media fraternity in either Lahore or Karachi. The cast boasts of some of the most promising and talented names in the industry such as Ahad Raza Mir, Osman Khalid Butt, Wahaj Ahmed, Ahmed Ali Akbar, Zara Noor Abbas, Alizeh Shah, and Hajra Yamin, providing ample star power for the big screen experience.
