Zara Sheikh might not have had a very long career as a Lollywood actress but whatever time she did spend on the big screen, Zara never left the spot of being a top star. Shooting to fame with an advertisement for a telecom brand and then having a blockbuster debut with the film Tere Pyaar Main, Zara truly did rule the hearts of her fans for whatever short amount of time she was in the acting industry.
However, it has been quite a while since Zara has had any significant acting project. When Zara was at her peak she mostly stuck to movies. Other than a few special appearances in some dramas here and there, Zara reserved her acting skills for the big screen only. But now, that is changing as Zara Sheikh has confirmed that she will be making her television debut with the upcoming drama Raqs e Bismil.
First TV show
Confirming the news herself to Galaxy Lollywood, Zara talked about the reason why she has decided to do a drama serial just now despite having debuted as an actor almost two decades ago.
“People have always asked me why I have never done a TV show before and my answer has always been the same: I just want to do a character that is exciting and gives me a good margin of performance.”
Zara also revealed that she had been offered TV shows before but they never excited her as an actor. However, when she was offered Raqs e Bismil, it had everything that she was looking for to say yes to a TV show.
“The character is really exciting. The show has a very good team of co-actors and also behind the screens. It is a Hum TV project. I am really looking forward to being a part of it.”
More to come?
Zara was last seen in the Ali Rehman Khan-Hareem Farooq starrer film Heer Maan Ja where she made a special appearance for the film’s upbeat dance number Addi Maar. Just this brief appearance of Zara back on the big screen was celebrated by her long-time fans who have been missing Zara’s work on the big screen. Raqs e Bismil will be the first time Zara Sheikh will be seen acting in a proper role for a television drama.
When asked if Zara will be open to doing more TV shows now that she is doing Raqs e Bismil, Zara said that her conditions for doing a TV show are the same. If she is offered another good script that challenges her as an actor, she will not say no to the project.
Shooting update
Shazia Wajahat, who is producing the drama in collaboration with Momina Duraid for Hum TV, updated about the drama’s shooting progress and added that Zara Sheikh is going to have a very exciting role in the drama.
“Zara will be joining the shoot soon. She has a very important character in the play, and is part of a major track in the show.”
The shooting for Raqs e Bismil is half-way done according to Shazia Wajahat. Currently, the team is busy shooting at outdoor locations and they plan on wrapping the shoot up by December. While Shazia could not confirm when the drama will go on-air, she is hopeful for an early 2021 release.
The first looks of the drama’s main leads Imran Ashraf and Sarah Khan have been released and they have received quite a positive reaction on social media. Written by Hashim Nadeem and directed by Wajahat Rauf, Raqs e Bismil is definitely one of the most anticipated dramas of 2021. More especially for long-time fans of Zara Sheikh.
