We know her, we love her, and she is, undoubtedly, one of the finest actors we have in the industry right now. The queen of hearts, and ace actor Sajal Aly is all set to play Fatima Jinnah in an upcoming series.
Sajal Aly Playing Fatima Jinnah: What We Know
A key socio-political figure, Fatima Jinnah spent her life towards the creation and progress of Pakistan as a nation. While she is often referred to as the Mader-e-Millat, she was so much more than that, given that she was a fierce, integral cog in the overall political machinery of the nation at the time. She remains to be one of the most iconic figures, and a series paying homage to her is one that is, without a doubt, long overdue, and highly anticipated.
Sajal Aly will be playing Fatima Jinnah for a majority of the series, representing her in the era of independence. Samiya Mumtaz will play Fatima Jinnah in a post-independence Pakistan, and Sundus Farhan will play the leader in a pre-independence subcontinent. The writer and director of the series, Danial K. Afzal, opened up about casting Sajal Aly in particular for this role in an interview with Dawn Images, calling her “an international icon,” also referring to her project with Jemima Goldsmith (What’s Love Got To Do With It?)
Other Details
The series, which is being made by a new production house called Aur Studios, may have a TV release, but is mainly being targeted towards an OTT audience. The teaser is apparently all set to hit screens, but the prologue will release on 14th August. The teaser for the prologue consists of Bombay, the brutal aftermath of the Partition on trains, and Fatima Jinnah standing for elections.
Dananeer Mobeen will also be seen in the series as a journalist from Bombay. Afzal also confirms in the interview that there will be three seasons, given the three eras of independence, with 15 episodes in each season.
We can’t wait to watch this compelling narrative about such a pivotal figure in the history of our motherland. This is a tale that must be told, and with all the details that have been revealed, we hope the project is as promising as it sounds.
