The film season, as you know, is on, and much is happening as far as Pakistan film industry is concerned. The level of buzz is such that it is at times too hard to keep up with it, for us and for the readers as well. We understand. So here we have collected all those information pieces that you might have missed for a reason or the other. Though we have also been reporting
on them at our Facebook page, but for our readers here at website, we have brought it all under one window.
Operation 021 to get the ‘Independence Day’ release:
The anticipation, since the bumper release and reception of Waar, has for sure multiplied for yet to come Operation 021. The reasons being simple and obvious, Shaan, guns and production quality.
Well, you won’t have to wait long since the day of Independence this year has finally been locked for film’s theatrical release. Reported previously as one of this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr releases, the distributors of the film have decided to rather use the date of 14th August 2014, falling on a Thursday, ensuring a long, four-day, opening weekend for film’s successful release.
It is also relevant to mention here that the film will release on around 58-59 screens all across Pakistan, whereas, it will also be the first ever Pakistani feature film to simultaneously release in 22 countries, reportedly including countries in American, European and Arab sphere.
Here, also read this very recent, very interesting interview of Shaan to Express Tribune in context to Operation 021.
Sahir Lodhi embarks on a journey of his debut feature film:
Years ago we reported that the famous TV and Radio personality, Sahir Lodhi, is planning to step into big screen, we even told you that the actor cum host was teaming up with the likes of Syed Noor and Reema for any venture of that sort. But nothing of that panned out at all for Sahir, the actor’s urge and passion, however, remained intact and this has now finally enabled him to produce a film of his own.
A joint production venture of Red Ocean Films (Sahir’s own production house), and Jehan Films–another filmmaking banner that is already working on four other films, Mausam–the film in discussion, will be of Drama-Romance genre, and will be directed by Sahir himself.
Aimed to be released this year, Mausam will have Sahir Lodhi and Mehr Hayek in lead roles, while Saeeda Imtiaz (of Kaptaan fame), Shafqat Cheema and Qavi Khan will be seen casting their magic as well.
The System’s box office reign likely to end way sooner than expected:
After a heavy opening weekend earning more than 2.5 crores, The System’s box office collections are expected to take a deep nosedive in the very second week of the film’s release, which is unfortunate of course.
The movie opened on around 59 screens all over the country, of which a great number is contributed by the multiplexes. The movie, however, didn’t stand long on these multiplexes and is being taken down one by one from these cinema houses.
Released on 30th May 2014, the film has already been taken down at Cinestar, DHA, and Super Cinemas in Lahore, while the situation is no different at Cinepax Cinemas with none of their cinema houses across the country currently running the film. It is however still running on Centaurus Cineplex Islamabad and Atrium Cinemas Karachi with merely a single show per day.
The good news is that the movie is still running in the single screen cinemas all over Pakistan, and these are perhaps the film’s last hope for the recovery of its 6-8 crore budget, aside from, of course, the movie’s international release which is to happen on 13th June this year.

Tamanna’s title track released:
With The System already released and running, Tamanna will be Pakistan’s second cinema release for the year 2014. Delayed in past quite a few times, the movie is finally set to hit cinemas on June 13th this year, which is just after three days from now.
In the same struggle, the title track of the film has been released which is soulfully voiced by Amanat Ali and is third in the line of film’s OST releases after Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s Koi Dil Mein and Sahir Bagga’s Allah Hoo.
The track, titled Tamanna (after film’s own title) is attached below, enjoy it and brace yourselves for the movie releasing on 13th June 2014. Salman Shahid, Faryal Gauher, Mehreen Raheel and Omair Rana are part of the cast, while the film is directed by Steven Moore.
