Industry veteran, Younis Malik, the man behind iconic Punjabi classics; Maula Jatt and Sher Khan, passes away.
Malik, a reputed name in the industry, was suffering from paralysis and also had a heart condition. He died earlier today after suffering a cardiac arrest last Wednesday.
Considered a pioneer of masses based Punjabi cinema, Malik’s Sultan Rahi and Mustafa Qureshi starer, Maula Jatt went on to create several records after its release in 1979. The film in a way also salvaged the troubled cinema business back then as it created a genre of its own; a formula that became an instant hit with masses, triggering the production of numerous Punjabi films based on the same genre, keeping the film trade alive in Pakistan even after the fall of Urdu films.
Younis Malik himself has more than hundred films to his credit, including another super hit Sultan Rahi starer, Sher Khan.
A large film gathering was seen at his funeral where people termed his demise ‘a great loss’ to Pakistan film industry.
