Nazia Hassan Marriage with Ishtiaq Baig
Nazia Hassan married Ishtiaq Baig in 1995. It was reported by Nazia Hassan’s family that she divorced her husband in 2000, only a few days before her death. They also maintained that Ishtiaq mistreated Nazia and she was a victim of abusive marriage for five years. Nonetheless, Ishtiaq Baig has always denied the allegations. According to him, he spent a perfect life with Nazia and the divorce certificate was forged by Nazia’s Family.
Zoheb Hassan and Ishtiaq Baig’s Rift
Zoheb Hassan, brother of Nazia Hassan, is a music composer and singer. He left the signing after the demise of her sister. He only appeared in Coke Studio in 2014. Zoheb Hassan and Ishtiaq Baig have always been in wrangle since the death of Nazia Hassan.
The two made it to headlines in 2018 when Zoheb Hassan took to social media and revealed that he will take serious legal action against Baig as the latter wants to produce a biopic on Nazia Hassan. Baig denied the allegations.
On 12 August 2021, Zoheb Hassan made some appalling revelations. He alleged that Nazia Hassan was given poison by her husband, which became the ultimate cause of her death.
In an interview given to a news channel, Zoheb Hassan divulged that according to a written statement recorded under oath, Nazia stated that “her husband fed her something harmful and treated her badly”. He further added that the statement is attested by the High Commission of Pakistan situated in London. He revealed that the late singer was detained in the United Kingdom by her husband and the Scotland Yard team was investigating the case.
Zoheb Hassan further explained that his sister was not capable of attending court in London, therefore a solicitor was appointed by the judge. The statements were recorded officially by that solicitor. The document bears a legal standing and is a sturdy piece of evidence. According to him, in the same document, the late singer alleged her husband of adding arsenic in her food.
Zoheb Hassan added that her sister was suffering from ovarian cancer that was treated by removing her ovary. She was in good health. His family was shocked to hear about Nazia’s lung cancer, which developed in a very short period of time. He said that now he realises that it was due to the poison given to her by her husband.
Ishtiaq’s Claim
After the serious allegations made by Zoheb Hassan, Ishtiaq Baig claimed that the allegations levelled against him are fictitious and backed by malice. He forewarned to sue Zoheb under defamation laws for 1 billion Rupees. He further added that he loved Nazia Hassan despite her medical condition. He still loves her and is still single even after 21 years of her death.
Why after 21 years
Soon after the first interview of Zoheb Hassan, people were bewildered as to why the brother had opened up about it after 21 long years. Zoheb clarified: “We had not seen the court document earlier. I found it now because I was going through papers after my father passed away 10 months ago.”
