Slackistan waiting for Censor Board’s clarification

The Anti-slumdog ‘Slackistan’ is an upcoming Pakistani English film, which is mainly based on the lives and activities of a group of twenty-something directionless friends living in the rich neighbourhoods of the federal capital city (Islamabad) aka ‘Isloo’.

The 87 minutes long film has already made a great buzz in several International film festivals including the most prestigious ones such as “Cannes Film Festival and Abu Dhabi Film Festival”, but is unfortunately continuously struggling to be released in Pakistan.

Last year it was expected to be released somewhere at the end of the year but it didn’t happen because of several reasons. This year the Rawalpindi based cinema-house ‘cinepax’ has finally made a decision to release it but the main hindrance on its way to be released is the clarification from Film censor board of Pakistan.

According to the movie’s own Facebook page, the movie has been submitted to the board and a final verdict regarding its clearance was expected to come on Wednesday but it all got delayed due to the incident of ex- Punjab Governor Slaman Taseer’s assassination.

Apart from that, the censor board has recommended the film to its full board for further consideration and a final verdict from them is expected soon.

On the other hand the Rawalpindi based ‘Cinepax’ is very much ready to release the film in Pakistan. If the decision comes in 2 to 3 days then it is expected that movie will be released on the date of 14th January, but if it takes time then the release date will be extended further.

If Slackistan is released in the month of January then it will become the first Pakistani movie to be released in year 2011, where as films like Bol, Love mein Gum, Bhai Log and Son of Pakistan are also in the pipeline and hopefully will be released in the starting months of the year.
