Chambaili, for multiple reasons has quite a unique position among others in the long queue of completed but still and soon to be released films produced locally. It might, and we hope it will prove to be a film that will guide the others also on their road to cinema.
The cast with names like; Maira Khan, Omair Rana, Ali Tahir, Salmaan Peerzada, Shafqat Cheema, Ghulam Moyiuddin, and of course the co-producer and writer of the film Shehzad Nawaz, although shows a great depth in the film, but the project on whole holds little star value.
But then again, as per a recent statement by Shehzad Nawaz, he believes more in the idea of casting characters rather the actors holding star value. “What’s the point of picking up established stars to ensure the success of the film? Where is my input then?” Shehzad said recently.
A political thriller by genre, the film is set in a fictional land called ‘Falakabad’. Surrounded by the political and social environment quite similar to the one gridling Pakistan since the inception days to date, the citizens of Falakabad are yet to experience the most impact creating political movement in the history of their country–‘The Chambaili Movement’.
Produced by Abdullah Kadwani and Shehzad Nawaz under their banners of 7th Sky and Coup Films, respectively, Chambaili is directed by Ismail Jillani, whereas Geo Films will be distributing the film countrywide.
Produced with a special care on the production value of the film, Chambaili has also set a new bar for all the upcoming flicks as far as the promotion of the film is concerned. With a heavy presence on social media, the brains behind the marketing strategy of the movie adopted some of the very alien ideas to the people in Pakistan. Be it a mega OST release, the movie inspired clothing line or the merchandising of film accessories, or even giving Lahore ‘The Chambaili Chowk’, a good effort seems to be done on whole as far as branding of the word ‘Chambaili’ is concerned, thus, a big kudos to Shahzad Nawaz, Geo Films and team.
Done with all of its pre-release work, the film is having its premiere today and will hit cinemas countrywide day after tomorrow–26th April 2013 (Friday).
The Favourable Scenario:
With all the political and election heat touching the heights, Chambaili for sure will get a favourable environment as the mood is already turned on. Plus, there is currently no big Indian or Hollywood film being played in Pakistani cinemas these days. So, quite an ideal situation.
Probable Hurdles:
The most politically charged-on demographic sector–youth–is one way or the other currently busy with the board exams. With the local board exams still not finished and the O/A level exams starting from the first week of the next month, Chambaili can expect a low turnout initially.
At the end, it’s all in your hands to make the film success, the filmmakers have done their utmost effort, its upon you now, as an audience to reciprocate this effort in an exuberant manner so that this opens up the avenues for all those films that are still feeling a little insecure to come out.
