Disappointed Lollywood Fans

No doubt this year was the most exiting one turned a big disappointment for the fans of Pakistani films. The main reason being the “release-delays” of the most awaited films, such as Bol, Love mein Ghum, Bhai Log, Son of Pakistan, Slackistan and even Devdas. All these features were previously announced to hit cinemas this year, mainly in the months of October-November, but then it all ended with the announcement of further delays.

The most common reason behind this delay is said to be the worst ever floods hitting the country, but fans rejecting these statements are of the view that filmmakers are delaying these movies only because of their own reasons and using the floods just as a punching bag”. In response to which the representatives of these movie are of the opinion that no director wants his film to be delayed as it results in much worse consequences and definitely there are some solid reasons due to which the movies are unable to make it to cinemas.

Bol; the second film by Shoaib Mansoor is now delayed till January 2011, stating the weak country situation as the main reason. Furthermore, it is also said that as the movie is based on a controversial kind of a topic, it might create little bit chaos in the country and that such a situation needs to be avoided as long as possible. Supporters for the decision are also not in limited numbers and are backing the delay with the argument that Shoaib Mansoor is a perfectionist and requires time to make something up-to his standards.

On the other hand, Reema’s Love Mein Ghum has been delayed twice. Previously it was set to release on Eid-ul-Fitr, but was then delayed till Eid-ul-Azha, stating the same “Weak country situation” reason for the delay. Now it has been further delayed and this time for an indefinite period, however, Reema in an interview said, “I am delaying the movie till the end of Moharram as showbiz activities remain calm during the holy month”. While some reports also suggest us that Love Mein Gum is actually stuck in some financial dispute between Reema and a Lahore based businessman Rafique–who claims to have investment and profit share in the movie.

Apart from that, movies like Bhai Log and Son of Pakistan were also scheduled to release this Eid-ul-Adha, but are now delayed  due to the “Muharram-ul-Haram” reason again.

However in the case of Slackistan, the director of the movie, Hammad Khan, said he is in talks with some movie distributors in Pakistan to release the film, but it’s hard to confirm any release date as Pakistan lacks the proper film releasing Infrastructure.

In the case of Devedas; that has now become one of the most delayed movies, is delayed further. Insufficient “Release budget” is said to be the main reason behind the movie not making it to cinemas.

After all that, we can only live on the assumption that “What ever is happening, happening for good”, and can believe that maybe this is not the perfect time for all these movies to be released.

  1. Your article has hit every point as to why its so cumbersome to release a film in Pakistan. Now after spotting the areas of weakness what do you suggest? Do we need a concise list of things to be done so as not to have film delays? Why do you not ask suggestions from your followers as what steps could be taken to help film be releases in time otherwise this is a fruitless attempt of we do NOT provide solutions!
