Cultural Co-operation emphasised at SAARC; Reema represented Pak

SAARC which basically stands for ‘South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation’, is an organisation with a devoted mission of promoting peace and cooperation between all its member regions of South Asia; where Pakistan also share memberships with 7 other South Asian member countries of the organisation. Countries other than Pakistan include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

For the promotion of the of its message of Regional cooperation between its member, the 4th Business Leaders Conclave was organised at Nepal few days back by ‘SAARC chamber of commerce and Industry’, with the basic theme of “Peace and Prosperity through Regional Connectivity”.

Apart from it being attended by many business individuals and other intellectuals, Pakistani film actress Reema Khan along with singer and Producer Jawad Ahmed also attended the event and spoke about the need of cultural collaboration between all the member countries of SAARC. Not only this, she also had discussion sessions on the same topic with Nepali-Indian actress Manisha Koirala and Indian actress Poonam Dhillon who were also part of the event representing their respective countries.

Elaborating her agenda at conclave, Reema said “Love and peace can bind people of the SAARC region together”…”Films of India and TV serials of Pakistan have a great impact in the society and thus the medium can be used to connect the people of region for the sake of peace and Love,” said the actress while her short chit chat with Indian media.

Later in an interview, Reema also told that her meeting with Manisha and Poonam was really a constructive one and that she also invited both of them to visit Pakistan.

She further said, “As Manisha was representing Nepal and Poonam India, the need of collaborative entertainment productions in future between all the SAARC regions was urged throughout the event on whatever platforms we got chance to speak on and that if this happens, it will surely result in good for Pakistan film industry too.”

Apart from Reema, Indian actress Poonam Dhillon also expressed her ideas and said, “We can benefit a lot if we could jointly market South Asian tourism.” She also floated the idea of promoting SAARC countries as beautiful shooting destination for Hollywood films as part of tourism promotion efforts.

Nepali actress Manisha Koirala had more stress again on the collaborative efforts and said “We all should help in building friendly environment so that film and culture in the region can develop well.”

Apart from all these people from entertainment world, Pakistani singer and Chairman Youth Parliament Abrar-ul-Haq was also seen at the conference but quite possibly with some different agenda.

We believe more of such events should be organised in future as well and their results should be executed in real terms so that such events can turn out to be something useful in creating a healthy environment between all these 8 nations of SAARC in the field of entertainment.
