The Khan of Pakistan: Fawad Khan continues journey of meteoric stardom back at home

Pakistan’s entertainment industry got its first The Khan, of modern times, in the form of nation’s heartthrob Fawad Afzal Khan: the handsome Ashar of Humsafar, the charismatic Zaroon of Zindagi Gulzar Hai and the charming Prince Vikram of Khoobsurat.

Fawad set off on a journey of unstoppable success and fame in Pakistan with the release of record smashing serial Humsafar back in 2011. He got recognition in India with the release of his cult TV show Zindagi Gulzar Hai there earlier this year and his first Bollywood film Khoobsurat landed him the unprecedented stardom any Pakistani star ever got across the border over such a short span of time.

Post-Khoobsurat Fawad has entirely been transformed into a superstar, one highly needed by the entertainment industry of Pakistan, exuding the star power and savoring the limelight of media and fans.

Khan was recently spotted at the Lahore premiere of Na Maloom Afraad, wearing pristine white shirt with perfectly fit blue denim, carrying an aura of the superstar and capturing the attention of all eyes and hearts. I was there covering the event for Galaxy Lollywood when the whole hall echoed with the buzz of ‘Fawad’ on the arrival of the superstar and all cameras started leashing the flood of flashes on modest smiling Khan.

It was a surreal experience to be among a superstar and more than that the pleasure of seeing a star wallowing in the luxury of public admiration was overwhelming. Finally, we have a star we need to be proud of.

Since his return he has been seen in various events bearing the exuberance of success and stardom. His film Khoobsurat received tremendous public response and made spectacular business of 30 million rupees in first week of its release in Pakistan. Khan organized special screenings of the film in Karachi and Lahore, to raise funds for Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital, where people swarmed in large numbers to get a glimpse of their favorite star and get few pictures or selfies with him.

At Lux Dinner, organized by the multinational consumer products giant in Karachi a week ago, Khan gave a special appearance with the Lux diva Iman Ali, making the event reminiscent of the gorgeousness they bore in Shoaib Mansoor’s Khuda Key Liye back in 2007. They still look awesome together.

Khan has announced that he is taking a break from TV and focusing more on films. He is in talks with various film producers in Pakistan and India for his next projects, including one highly speculated project with Sultana Siddiqui and remake of Maula Jutt by Bilal Lashari as GL reported few months ago. None of these projects has been officially confirmed yet.

However, his another Bollywood venture, starring opposite Sonam Kapoor again, which will be adaptation of Anuja Chauhan’s bestseller Battle for Bittora has been confirmed, as reported by The Times of India.  I personally  wish that he confirms a Pakistani film along with his Bollywood ventures as well this time.

As TV and Film industries are regaining strong holds in Pakistan after a period of downfall, the need of having our own stars and superstars is at its high and under such circumstances, one cannot deny the fact that, the rise of Fawad Khan is timely and much needed for the industry. It’s solely on Khan how he carries this obligation and strikes a balance between his professional aspirations and expectations of people from him.
