We have been talking about Pakistani content’s entry into the world of digital streaming for quite some time now. A couple of weeks back we also brought you a list of possible prospects for the country’s first original in the world of streaming and binge-watching. Well, the dream has been realised and the trailer for Pakistan’s first ever Web-TV series, “Enaaya” just got released.
The series, which is an Eros original, stars Mehwish Hayat and Azfar Rehman in lead roles, and Wajaht Rauf (Karachi Sey Lahore) has directed it. Enaaya is the same web-show we had told you earlier that Wajahat Rauf is working on.
Besides his two films (Karachi Sey Lahore and Lahore Se Aagay), Rauf has also directed highly praised songs in the past for Cornetto Pop Rock, and brings pretty much the same flavour in this series, or at least that’s what the trailer shows.

The trailer shows us Mehwish Hayat as Enaaya, a bubbly college girl who has “music flowing in her veins.” An independent yet responsible girl, Anaya aspires to be a musician.
On the other hand, we have Azfar Rehman as Jimmy who wants to win an upcoming music competition. Both come together when Jimmy needs a lead singer for his band and offers Enaaya to join in.
The conflict starts when Jimmy’s girlfriend, Faryal (played by Faryal Mehmood) takes offence at Enaaya being offered a place in the band unbeknownst to her.
Our Thoughts
Mehwish’s avatar in the series is a breath of fresh air as her character seems really likable. The Billi star would also be seen singing in the TV series, and we already love the music. Azfar, on the other hand, looks very much like himself (which isn’t a bad thing) but we can’t see him doing anything new just yet.
This is going to be an emotional ride but the drama seems a bit melodramatic in parts. Moreover, while both the actors look good on-screen, we had a hard time believing them as college students. Also, it is to be seen how the story is received in the Indian market since the genre has been done multiple times over there in the past.
The fact that Eros is an Indian company, we hope that it will market the series all across the world equally.
On the other hand, however, Mehwish is at the top of her game right now, and the fact that she is still bringing something new to this role is incredible. Besides Azfar, her other cast members include Asad Siddiqui, Rabab Hashim, Waqar Godhra, Gul e Rana, and Shaan Baig.
All the episodes of Enaaya will be available on “Eros Now” from 21st January onwards.
