Films this Friday (25 January 2019): Kangana’s “Manikarnika” on the offer

2019 has seen a galore of releases over the past few weeks. Seven movies released last week and six in the week before that. All of them, however, have failed to register any success at the box-office.

While it seems like an off-season in terms of box-office, it seems like the coming week would be an off-week in terms of movies too. We say this because as compared to the last couple of weeks where multiple films would release every weekend, this week has only one film releasing, i.e. Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi

Manikarnika is based on the life of Rani Lakshmibai, one of the key leaders in the First War of Independence (1857). Starring Kangana Ranaut in the main lead, the movie has been caught in a lot of controversies since its inception. The trailer of the film, however, did generate quite a lot of positivity among the trade and audiences.

GL Says: Even with that positivity around it; coupled with also the buzz generated by the songs and promos, the team Manikarnika could not capitalize on the opportunity and therefore, there is hardly any hype around the movie. In the absence of that, it will rely heavily on a good word of mouth.

The film is a Non-Holiday release in Pakistan, and unlike in India where it will benefit from the Republic Day holiday, its chances on the local box-office look dim. We say this also because of a bitter fact that women-centric films in past have generally not done too well in Pakistan.

More Fish in the Sea

If you are not interested in Manikarnika, don’t worry, there is plenty more fish in the sea. From the past week, Glass is a film that we would recommend all to watch in cinemas as it boasts of some great performances from stars like Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, and James McAvoy with a lot of thrills and drama.

Escape Room is another thriller running in cinemas these days. It is a story of six strangers who have to get through different life-threatening situations to survive. The film will keep you engaged throughout its run with many twists and thrilling moments.

On the other hand, kids, and even interested adults can catch films like How to Train Your Dragon and 3 Bahadur in cinemas. Both are sequels to good films and are also carrying great reports for themselves too.

Last but not least is the Ranveer Singh starrer, Simmba. For those who have still not seen it, do go at the earliest, and for those who have seen it already, the film offers a great repeat value. Ever since it was released in Pakistan, Simmba has been the box-office winner every week and might win the race this week too.

I am a complete movie buff, who not only watches a lot of movies but also considers all other factors involved in making movie a success story. Movies are my passion and analysing them from all aspects is what I love doing.
