Mere Paas Tum Ho starring Humayun Saeed, Ayeza Khan and Adnan Siddiqui has been grabbing headlines ever since the show’s eye-catching trailer was released. It is currently ruling the television screens with unprecedented viewership and ratings which are going up through the roof.
The drama has also managed to create a social media storm of sorts and is being discussed for reasons more than one. While the audiences have been bowled over by the actors’ performances in the drama, not many know that MPTH went through quite an interesting casting journey – and that stars Humayun Saeed and Ayeza Khan were not part of the cast originally planned for the super successful show.
Unconventional content
This Nadeem Baig directorial touches upon themes such as extramarital affairs and infidelity, with a unique twist of its own. Due to its bold content, the play has been getting a polarizing response to its episodes, and the controversy has helped its popularity tremendously.
The unconventional aspect of this play is that the female protagonist as a wife is shown cheating on a naïve husband instead of the usual husband cheating on his spouse scenario that is shown in most dramas. Mere Paas Tum Ho was a risky project for the makers and although the risk has paid off beyond expectations for the team, the casting process of the drama is a twisting plot in itself!

Casting Shuffles
As he has been quoted saying himself, writer Khalil-Ur-Rehman Qamar penned the script keeping Humayun Saeed in his mind. He always wanted Humayun to act in the play and wanted Punjab Nahi Jaungi fame director Nadeem Baig to direct the play, going as far back as 2015. Humayun, however, prioritized films at that point in time and produced the first installment of Jawani Phir Nahi Aani franchise.
The female protagonist initially was supposed to be played by Ayesha Khan opposite Humayun and Adnan, who had already been cast. Ayesha came on board for the drama but it got postponed, and later the production team decided to offer Humayun’s role to Adeel Hussain and Feroze Khan.
Both Adeel and Feroze were in talks for the project but the arrangement couldn’t see the light of the day at that time as Khalil-ur-Rehman sahib insisted that only Humayun should play the lead. The production team also approached director Qasim Ali Mureed to direct who is currently working on the feature film Tich Button.
Later Ayesha decided to bid adieu to the tinsel-town altogether so the team offered the role to Azaadi fame Sonya Hussain. Sonya turned down the project terming the female protagonist as too bold and grey.
Final Choices
The team considered a few more names for Mehwish’s character and eventually zeroed on Ayeza Khan. Ayeza has previously worked with Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar in several projects such as Pyarey Afzal.
Humayun recently revealed all these details in a video interview with an online portal. The director, Nadeem Baig, revealed Hira Mani’s entry into the play’s interval point. He also shared that a prominent actress will be making a guest appearance in the drama as Adnan’s wife. We cannot wait to see how these twists unfold on the screen and how the audience reacts to the show’s upcoming cast members!
