Is Kubra Khan Too Planning On Leaving Showbiz?

Kubra Khan recently sat down for an interview with the much-loved Haroon Rashid from BBC and things got interesting, with the Alif lass talking about spirituality and about how like all good things, fame and stardom in showbiz too has to end.

A year of spiritual awakening

Kubra started by talking about how she’s come face-to-face with a few realities of life after going through a spiritual awakening over the previous year. The actress talked about how her quick success and fame put her in a position where she wasn’t very happy with the person she was becoming. In the past year, during Ramadan the actress had also taken a hiatus from Instagram to sit in itekaaf.

Material wealth

Kubra also talked about how her stance on material possessions had changed. She acknowledged that money, material things, success and fame are important parts of our world but none of that aids a person beyond the grave.

The actress said that none of her awards would have any value in front of God. She went on to say that her accolades and successful career meant nothing if she wasn’t a good person. On a rather somber note, she admitted that ‘On my deathbed, I don’t want to be scared to face my lord’.

On mental health

Kubra acknowledged that being in a place where she wasn’t happy with who she had become took a toll on her mental health.

She further said that branded objects and people swarming her wasn’t the sort of thing she prioritized, rather it was being able to take her camera and backpack and sit in a museum or an exhibition, and moving around in an uninhibited manner, that brought her actual joy.

Kubra Khan in ‘Alif’

Alif was ‘Godsend’

Kubra called her on-air drama Alif Godsend and explained that it came to her when she wasn’t in the best place, at a time when she was questioning if she wanted to remain a part of the industry at all.

The actress said that reading the script of Alif made her fall in love with her character Husn-e-Jahan.

On the future

Upon being asked about the future, Kubra admitted that she was in the industry for as long as it took to “make enough money to move on” to bigger ambitions.

The actress said that she still wears sleeveless tops, sings and dances, and as long as her neeyat is right, she believes the karma will be good.

She also said that if she can balance things out, she would continue to work, but if not, she will move on somewhere else. Much like Hamza Ali Abbasi!

Final word

Actors feeling disaffected from what is often perceived to be skin deep glitz and glamor of show business is nothing new, however, Kubra shed an interesting light by stating that she would like to strike a more balanced posture that takes into account her spiritual and mental health needs as well.

In a welcome move, the Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 star did not attack art in delving about her journey to a spiritual awakening, rather she talked about how she would eventually want to choose a different track for her life in the longer run.

Which brings us to the bottom line: While we’re enjoying her performance in Alif immensely and want to see her grace our screens for a lot longer, we get the feelers Kubra might just be gearing up to pulling up a Hamza Ali Abbasi on us!
