Upcoming Pakistani Films To Keep An Eye Out For

With a recent boom in releases after two grueling years in a never-ending pandemic, more and more teams of filmmakers are finding opportunities to put forth their projects. Here are a few upcoming Pakistani films that will release in the neat future:

Intezar -19th August 2022

A quick look at the trailer of Sakina Samo’s directorial project reminds one of Baghban, where children mistreat parents and lose patience with them after a while. Addressing the generation gap with the intent to be an emotional rollercoaster, the film stars Khalid Ahmed, Samina Ahmed, and Adnan Jaffer among others, and is penned by Bee Gul.

SHOTCUT – 2nd September 2022

A wholesome Punjabi film, this Juggan Kazim, Gohar Rasheed, and Sana Fakhar starrer promises comedy and fun packed in one. Written and directed by Abu Aleeha, the film has been produced by Javed Ahmed Kakepoto, Faheem Samejo, and Sufi Hashim Bin Harris under the banner of KK Films Production. It also stars Naseem Vicky, Ahmed Hassan Marhoom Ahmed Bilal, Nawaz Anjum, Honey Albela, and debutant Alia Khan, among many others.

Doda – 2nd September

A Baloch feature film that suffered delays due to the pandemic, Doda follows the narrative of a small-town boxer and the perils he must endure. This will also be the first Baloch film in Pakistan since 1976, and is key for representation.

Carma – 2nd September

This Adnan Siddiqui, Zhalay Sarhadi, and Naveen Waqar starrer promises mystery, intrigue, drama, and thrill. Touching upon various taboo themes under the direction and production by Kashan Admani, this is set to be a film for those who love to see shades of grey being explored.

Zarrar – Fall 2022

Shaan’s major, larger-than-life comeback film needs no introduction. The trailer has already enthralled audiences who cannot wait to see Shaan feature in a series of action sequences with double crosses and twists galore. The film also stars Nadeem Baig, Kiran Malik, and Nayyer Ejaz. While the release date is up in the air momentarily, rumor has it that it might have a fall release – tentatively 9th September.

Yaara Vey – 16th September 2022

This Sami Khan and Aleeze Nasser starrer that has been directed by Manish Pawar is a classic rom-com that touches upon the theme of opposites attracting, conflict in love, and messy love triangles. The film also stars Faizan Khwaja, Javed Shaikh, Marina Khan and Ali Sikander, and has been produced by Beeline Productions.

The Legend of Maula Jatt – 13th October 2022

The long-awaited Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan starrer finally has a release date, and we can all flock to cinemas on 13th October to watch this masterpiece be realized before our eyes. After Waar, this is Bilal Lashari’s huge comeback to the big screen, and everyone is excited for it.

Tich Button – 28th October 2022

The long delayed Tich Button that features an interesting ensemble cast finally has a release date. With Farhan Saeed, Feroze Khan, Sonya Hussyn, and Iman Ali as its stars, the film is set to be a commercial entertainer with romance sprinkled in. It has been directed by feature film debutante, Qasim Ali Mureed, and produced by Salman Iqbal and Urwa Hocane in her debut production.

Aasman Bolay Ga – November 2022

The celebrated Shoaib Mansoor is determined to set the Pakistani industry ablaze with his next project, which, if whispers on the grapevine are to be believed, is going to hit cinemas in November 2022. With a patriotic undercurrent, the Emmad Irfani and Maya Ali starrer is going to revolve around the Pakistan Airforce, and their efficiency while striking back after India’s attack on Balakot.

Neelofar – December 2022

Are we really going to be blessed enough to witness the Humsafar duo, Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan in not one, but TWO films the same year? Seems likely, since the Ammar Rasool directorial is slated for a potential release by the end of the year.

Other Upcoming Pakistani Films

Other films that are set to release in Pakistan are the celebrated Joyland, that won big at Cannes, the previously censored Javed Iqbal with Yasir Hussain, and Sarmad Khoosat’s far too long awaited Zindagi Tamasha. More upcoming releases include Abhi, John, Gavah Rehna, Dhai Chaal, Once Upon A Time In Karachi, and What’s Love Got To Do With It (we’re counting it, since it stars Sajal Aly).

Oof – quite a filled slate. We are pumped to see Pakistani films picking up traction once more. Onwards and upwards, surely, as we march on forward and witness the bevy of content that is in store for audiences this year.
