We cannot vouch for the authenticity of these box office numbers given by independent box office tracking sites. We tried to get official numbers from the makers but the makers did not want to reveal the numbers. So until the official numbers come from the makers themselves or until we have some official box-office tracking system in Pakistan this is all we have got. Moreover at times the numbers are revised to dont worry if you see a slight change in the mentioned numbers.
It came and it conquered!
The film ‘Karachi Se Lahore’ hit cinemas last Friday and from the very first day itself it became obvious that the film was going to register some big numbers at the box office. Almost all shows were sold out and the word of mouth was extremely positive. So it did not come as a surprise when the film showed great growth on the second and third day.
Moreover the film maintained its numbers on the weekdays too and seven days after it first hit cinemas one could safely say that the film was a success. It should be noted that despite the fact that the film released on a non-holiday week and had to face tough competition from a handful of past releases it still managed to make its presence felt. One only wonders what magic the film would have cast at the box office had it released on Eid-ul-Fitr as its common knowledge that any and every film released during the Eid festivities is bound to get a boost.
But the film was yet to show its real magic as it made more money in its second weekend as compared to the first week. This can be attributed to the positive word of mouth which led to the film getting more shows in its second weekend.
Lets see how the film fares in the coming days and what new records it creates. However the film will have to be quick as this friday sees five big films hitting cinemas and ‘Karachi Se Lahore’ wont have many showtimes.
Here are the day to day numbers:-
Day 1: 40 lacs
Day 2: 75 lacs
Day 3: 75 lacs
Day 4- 7: 1.8 cr
Day 8: 60 lacs
Day 9: 80 lacs
Day 10: 80 lacs
Total:5.9 cr
Lets see how the film holds in the coming days. Stay tuned to Galaxy Lollywood for updates.
We cannot vouch for the authenticity of these box office numbers given by independent box office tracking sites. While we had the official numbers from ARY Films for ‘Wrong Number’ for the first few days now we do not have the numbers for either ‘Wrong Number’ or Roye’. So until the official numbers come from the makers themselves or until we have some official box-office tracking system in Pakistan this is all we have got. Also the numbers are revised at times and hence you may find th numbers a bit different for certain days.
It was surely a clash of the titans as two big budget films were releasing on the very same day. Both the films had stars attached to them and the promotion/marketing for the films was a success as the buzz around them both was worth seeing. But what happens at the box-office window, well nobody can really predict. People thought that the Mahira Khan starrer would emerge as the clear winner given her recent escapades in Bollywood, but well the box office has a different story to tell.
It was evident from the first day itself that Wrong Number would be leading this box-office battle as it had registered huge numbers for the first day. Moreover it also managed to maintain those numbers as the days passed. A week after the release one could safely say that ‘Wrong Number’ not only won this war but had generally established itself as a ‘hit film’. Specially since it was holding up exceptionally well after the Eid holidays which proved that the film was being liked by the audiences and that the word of mouth was positive. However the biggest magic trick the film pulled was when it had a bigger second weekend as compared to its initial release. The international norm is that the second week sees a fall in the collections. But ‘Wrong Number’ not only maintained the collections rather it improved on them! It has already crossed the 10cr mark. It’s worth mentoring that except ‘Waar’ , ‘Na Maloom Afraad’, ‘Bol’ and Chooriyan’ no Pakistani film has ever crossed the 10 cr mark so it’s a huge achievement. The film has now grossed about 13 cr at the box office and has overtaken ‘Na Maloom Afraad’ while earning the spot as the third highest grosser of all time. Moreover the film is holding really well after the release of Karachi Se Lahore so it should be able to add some numbers to the total tally. However these next few days are extremely crucial for the film because after 13 August when the three mega film’s ‘Dekh Magar Pyaar Say’ ‘Shah’ and ‘Moor’ release there wont be any showtimes given to ‘Wrong Number’ and ‘Bin Roye’ so these next few days are probably the last few day after which both ‘Wrong Number’ and ‘Bin Roye’ will be a thing of the past.
Moreover ‘Bin Roye’ also is a winner in the sense that is has recorded good numbers at the box office. After a somewhat slow start the film picked up on day two and three and its due to this growth that the film had managed a strong first week. Moreover Bin Roye also held really well despite the fact that the Eid festivities had ended. Moreover even ‘Bin Roye’ improved on its first week figures and shows a growth. Well the film has crossed the 9 cr mark at the domestic box office and once you add the numbers from the international markets this film has huge numbers. ( We will be doing a post on the Bin Roye international box office soon)
Here is the day to day breakdown for both the films.

Independence Day is a special day and holds great importance for all us Pakistani’s. Its a day we all celebrate with patriotic zest while paying homage to our fore-fathers for all their sacrifices. Its a day like none other and a day which surely justifies all the jubilation and hoopla that surrounds it. But things this time around are going to be extra special as this Independence Day will see not one, not two, but three Pakistani films releasing on the very same day! And if media reports are to be believed this has not happened for at least forty years , making this simultaneous release a momentous occasion. But in this article I try to raise the question and talk to industry insiders and ask them is this actually something worth celebrating?
Everyone knows that the Pakistani Film Industry’s revival has just recently gained momentum. We are finally in a period where we are seeing a continuous flow of films every month and the films too are being well received by the audiences. However a closer look at the release dates would show that most releases seem to be centered around the third quarter and more so in August which is going to see a total of five films hitting cinemas. While this may seem as a cause for celebration but it might just turn out that all the film releases are exhausted in this period which brings about another dry spell for the Film Industry.
But the bigger concern at this point is the release of ‘Dekh Magar Pyaar Say’, ‘Moor’ and ‘Shah’ on the fourteenth august along with two international releases namely ‘Brothers’ from Bollywood and ‘ The Man from U.N.C.L.E.’ from Hollywood all releasing on the very same day.
“Honestly this is crazy. It took us eight years to establish back our cinema industry. This gave local film makers the strength to make films as well as experiment with genres. But this collision of films is killing everybody’s hard work, specially director and producers.” says Mohsin Yaseen, Head of Marketing for Footprint Entertainment (The distributors for Shah).
He adds “These clashes can easily be avoided by talking to each other or making a producer / distributor association who authorizes a release date as per a slate. Don’t you think worldwide producers and distributors collide on release dates and want to release there films on Christmas, Eid day or other special occasions. They found a way to over come this mistake and managed to give every release at least one week’s clean window to make the maximum out of it. We need to follow this same pattern, or else we will very soon exhaust all our films and will again have to wait years for new productions to happen.“
The Independence Day Releases
But the argument being used by people who are supportive of this release is that Fourteenth August is a big day and it can tackle the five releases. Normally Eid days have been seen as the best time to release a film because of the number of people that visit cinemas during this period is huge .This Eid-ul Fitr saw a total first day collection of about 3cr which was majorly distributed between ‘Bin Roye’ ‘Wrong Number’ ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘Terminator’. Taking this 3 cr as the benchmark one can assume that 14 August would bring a similar collection at the box office. But while Eid saw all commercial films hitting cinemas this time around we have more niche targeted films.
” Yes I know that Moor is not a masala film. But I see a complete new life in industry.Even if Moor is killed by other masala films I will still be happy that my industry is alive and kicking” says Jami Mahmood the director of Moor.
Another point to be considered is that in addition to the five films releasing this Independence Day we still have past releases such as ‘Bajrangi’ ‘Wrong Number’ ‘Karachi Se Lahore’ among others which are still doing wonders at the box-office so things for the new releases will be extra hard.
Nadeem MandviwallaNadeem Mandviwalla , who is the producer of Moor as well as an Indutry veteran talks about this and says
“It has been an exceptionally encouraging year for Pakistani produced films starting from Jalaibee followed by 3 Bahadur, Bin Roye, Wrong NO. and recently released Karachi Se Lahore. All films have done exceptionally well at the Box Office and have garnered a total gross Box Office collection on each film which has been a very welcoming surprise. The audience in Pakistan has really supported the efforts of these filmmakers and have enjoyed their craftsmanship. Considering the same we can envisage the probability of a same response for the upcoming 3 films namely, Shah, Dekh Magar Pyaar Say and Moor on 14th August which remain very different in genres amongst each other.
The diversity of support shown earlier by the audience does encourage all filmmakers to make films with diverse subjects and try their craftsmanship. MOOR is a serious drama which has a deep meaning relating to its story around the Motherland and a staunch belief of a mother in a small family. Thus, the date of 14th August was most appropriate.
MOOR may not be a masala film but surely it will be a treat to see the film as it has been exquisitely shot in the locales of Baluchistan and will be a great cinematic treat for the public at large. We do believe that there is a very diversified audience in Pakistan now for the cinemas who is ready to explore any kind of genre which pleases them and is likeable.Wishing all films and their teams the best of luck for 14th August and may Allah give everyone the success they deserve.”
Adnan SarwarTalking about the very same phenomenon Adnan Sarwar the Director and Lead Actor of the film Shah says
“As a member of the Pakistani film industry I am very happy. This is the first time in the last 40 years that 3 Pakistani films are releasing on Independence Day and I am proud that our film is part of the ensemble on this historic day. With regards the clash with the other films, ours is a small, independent film made with a limited budget and just the fact that we are in competition with such major motion pictures made with much larger budgets says a lot about the power of our idea and our cinema. I will watching both DMPS and Moor to support the local film industry and will request the same from everyone who reads this.”
Head of Marketing for Footprint Entertainment Mohsin Yaseen adds
“Yes, Shah is not Masala film. But you dont have to be a Masala film, you just need to be a good film. Its a film about our forgotten National Hero who survived the tough life of Layari and made his mark felt. I believe this will do the same and we let the ticket sales decide the fate of the film. As far as Bollywood and Hollywood is concerned, can we please be patriotic on at least 14 August and support Pakistani Cinema?”
I decided to ask cinema people whats their take on this. Khurram Gultasab, General Manager of Super Cinemas said “Well we will make sure that each film gets its due number of showtimes but at the end of the day it is all on what the audiences want. Currently we have Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Wrong Number both running to packed houses in our single screen cinemas and because the audience wants them we are playing them. Lets see what happens this Eid, although if you ask me I think Brothers will rule the single screens while the Pakistani releases will have a strong hold at the multiplexes”
Well looks like we will have to wait for the Independence Day to come and see what it brings with itself. However you let us know what your take on this entire situation is in our comments sections. Also dont forget to vote for your favorite film in our special Independence Day Poll. ( Click Here to Vote )
Note: repeated attempts were made to get a response from the makers of ‘Dekh Magar Pyaar Say’ but they were a bit pre-occupied and chose not to reply.
Now this is great news for all Fahad Mustafa and Iman Ali fans as the good looking jodi’s much anticipated film will finally be hitting cinemas this November. Yes, its the same Mah-e-Meer which created quite the sir on social media last year when its first official trailer was released. However the film was delayed quite a few times and fans had almost given up hope for a release date. But all that is a thing of the past as the film is now releasing on the 6th of November.
Moreover what makes this news even more exciting is the fact that the makers of Mah-e-Meer decided to wait and release the film in November as opposed to August or September which are already jam-packed with a dozen releases. We are surely counting days to the release of this Fahad Mustafa, Iman Ali,Sanam Saeed, Manzar Sehbai and Aly Khan starrer. Are you?
Polls are always fun as these give us insight about the level of excitement people have for the films. And we are back with another poll, this time for the films releasing on Independence Day (14 Aug), just like one we had for the films being released on Eid ul Fitr this year.
This time, again, we are asking you to select a film which is at the top of your list and which you will watch first among others (if you are going to watch more than one film).
We included Brothers (Bollywood) and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (Hollywood) in the poll along with 3 Pakistani films Dekh Magar Pyaar Say, Moor and Shah.
We will announce the result on 13 August. The poll is open till then.
The frenzy the first look of upcoming biopic Manto created just a couple of days ago has been escalated to a new high with the release of music videos of the film and announcement of the film’s release date. Manto is hitting the cinemas on 11 September, 2015.
The announcement of the release date was made by the makers of the film in the curtain raiser event held at Nueplex Cinema, Karachi on Thursday night.
The film stars popular names of the TV/film industry including Sarmad Khoosat, Sania Saeed, Nimra Bucha, Saba Qamar, Arjumand Rahim, Hina Bayat, Irfan Khosaat, Shamoon Abbasi, Mahira Khan, Humayn Saeed, Faisal Qureshi and Savera Nadeem. The film is directed by Sarmad Khoosat himself and written by Shahid Nadeem.
Manto is releasing under Geo Films banner which gives Geo Films a strong comeback, after release of Dukhtar last year, with back to back releases of two idiosyncratic films like Moor and Manto. Geo Films has many other popular films in its credits like, Khuda Key Liye, Bol and Mohabbataan Sachiyaan.
Watch the first music video “Aah Ko Chahye” by Ali Sethi below.
Update: The article previously mentioned the film title to be ‘Mein Manto,’ whereas the actual title of the film is ‘Manto’ and it has been corrected in the article. ‘Mein Manto’ is the title of an upcoming TV serial, produced as an extension to the same project, which will follow the film after its release.

It’s worth mentoring that except ‘Waar’ , ‘Na Maloom Afraad’, ‘Bol’ and Chooriyan’ no Pakistani film has ever crossed the 10 cr mark so it’s a huge achievement. Now lets see whether the film is able to cross the collections of ‘Na Maloom Afraad’ which has approximately 12.28 cr collections at the box office. The film has already grossed about 12 cr at the box office and given the fact that it is holding well after the release of Karachi Se Lahore it should be able to cross these collections. The team of Dekh Magar Pyaar Say assembled at the ritzy Super Cinema Vogue Towers for the music launch of the much anticipated feature film starring the silver screen luminary Humaima Malick and debutante Sikander Rizvi. Appearing to a group of eager fans and media, the lead actors swooned to the tunes of the latest Pakistani movie enticing viewers into theaters.
Dekh Magar Pyaar Se’s music production unit was also present at the meet and greet, with music band SOCH the band performing a original composition from the OST, Neray Neray Vas, for the audience and singing along to their updated renditions of classic Pakistani tunes such as Kala Doriya and I am Sweetey. Humaima appeared particularly upbeat and festive in promoting her latest venture, even taking to the stage to sway alongside a track from the movie opposite fellow lead Sikander Rizvi.
To top it all off, Ali Zafar, to the roaring appreciation of the audience, made a surprise visit and endorsed Dekho Magar Pyaar Se, urging the audience to watch it when it releases this August 14th. All in all, it was a great event to plug a promising movie, and like many others in the show, we can’t wait to see what the team of DMPS has to offer for cine-goers this Independence Day. If the film is anywhere as eclectic and vibrant as its soundtrack, which, as the team proudly announced, was entirely produced in Pakistan and by Pakistanis, then we should be in for a treat.
The film is all set to release this Independence Day.
Saadat Hasan Manto is one of the biggest names in Urdu literature and one of the most read Urdu short fiction writers. It was a huge pleasure for the Manto’s readers and fans when the news of a film, Manto, based on the writer’s life was revealed more than a year ago. The very first unofficial look of Sarmad Khoosat as Manto was revealed earlier but the official first look posters of the film are just released which make the people wait for the film more anxiously.
The posters came with various confirmations about the rumors spanning around the cast of the film. The mega-star film includes many TV veterans including Sarmad Khoosat, Mahira Khan, Nimra Bucha, Saba Qamar, Sania Saeed and Nadia Afghan in lead and supporting roles along with cameos by Faisal Qureshi, Humayun Saeed and Savera Nadeem. Sania Saeed is playing the character of Manto’s wife and Saba Qamar is reprising the role of Madam Noor Jahan.
Manto is produced by TV’s stalwarts Asif Raza Mir and Baber Javed and directed by none other than multi-talented Sarmad Khoosat himself. Khoosat has given many hit TV shows, most notably PTV’s sitcom Shashlik and Hum’s huge hit Humsafar.
The film is expected to be released in September but the confirmation of the release date is still due.
The most teasing poster is of Mahira Khan who is playing the character of a monkey’s master (Madari) in the biopic.
Saba Qamar is looking good as Madam Noor Jahan in these posters.
Check out other posters from the film below.
