Pakistani music stars making inroads to Hollywood

Three of our music stars, Atif Aslam, lead vocalist of the band Overload, Farhad Humayoon,  and Ali Azmat are going to feature their singing talent in the shortly coming Meesha Shafi starrer ‘Hollywood’ movie The Reluctant Fundamentalist.

Ali Azmat and Overload are making their Hollywood debut with this film, while Atif has already been projected as a singer in an Independent American feature, Man Push Cart.

Ali Azmat’s famous Bum Phatta and Ovreload’s Dhhol bajay ga are featuring in the movie, while on the other hand, Atif Aslam along with legendary American singer Peter Gabriel and American Band Genesis, would sing the Urdu verses of famous Pakistani poet, Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s Mori Araj Suno, and Bol key lab azad hain tairay.

The Reluctant Fundamentalist, directed by famous Indian parallel cinema director, Mira Nair is also going to open the 69th Venice Film Festival–commencing from 29th of this month.

The movie is based on a Pakistani best-selling novel with this very name, written by Mohsin Hamid in the perspective of 9/11 incident. It’s a story of a Pakistani national, Changaiz, living in New York, who works in Wall Street and how he faces the circumstances after the hard-hitting 9/11 incident, leaving the Muslims especially Pakistanis in complete chaos.

Meesha Shafi; daughter of renowned TV artist, Saba Hameed, is playing an important role in the movie alongside Indian artists Shabana Aazmi and Om Puri. British actor Riz Ahmed, American actor Kate Hudson along-with Liev Schreiber and Kiefer Sutherland are also part of the movie.

After giving the hit Jugni with Arif Lohar for Coke Studio, this is again something that many people would look forward to from Meesha Shafi’s perspective. Meesha is also starring in forthcoming Pakistani film Waar, alongside Shaan Shahid, Shamoon Abbasi, Ayesha Khan and Ali Azmat.
