PTV joins “Gumm” as media partner in its third cinematic venture

Gumm PTV

Where the PTV gave us classic ageless dramas which would get the roads and bazaars deserted, it has also seen its fair share of lows. Being a government entity, PTV plays cautiously when it comes to stepping out of its own little world.

With the changing times though, the government-owned media giant has gotten out of its comfort zone and partnered with the budding film industry of the country. Most recently, it joined hands with the makers of Shamoon Abbasi and Sami Khan starrer, Gumm, as the film’s media partner and can be seen promoting the film through different means.

It’s, however, not the first time PTV would be acting as the media partner for a big screen project. In past, it has collaborated with films like Maalik and Salute, and only yesterday, on the death anniversary of the 15-year-old martyr, Aitzaz Hassan, the channel held the TV premiere of Salute.

World TV Premiere for Gumm

Gumm is being released in cinemas across Pakistan on 11 January and will be the first local film to hit the cinemas in 2019. PTV has acquired the exclusive rights for the film’s TV Premier.

The film stars Sami Khan, Shameen Khan, and Shamoon Abbasi. It has been produced and directed by the husband and wife duo, Ammar Lasani and Kanza Zia. Ammar Lasani specializes in direction and his wife has done a masters in cinematography.

What Changed for PTV

Two major things have changed in recent times for PTV. The former MD of the channel, Arshad Khan has returned at the helm of affairs of the state-run television network and Khawar Azhar has been appointed as the Head of Content and Marketing.

PTV saw numerous improvements in Arshad Khan’s previous tenure as well, and with this highly professional management, the channel is now gearing up to give tough competition to its private counterparts.

Gumm: The Festival Wonder

Preceding to its theatrical release in Pakistan, Gumm has done rounds of various international film festivals, and gathered a lot of appreciation. Most prominently, it was awarded the ‘Best Screenplay’ at the Madrid Film Festival along with Sami Khan winning it in the ‘Best International Actor in a Foreign Film category.

Our best wishes to the film for its theatrical release.

I am a doctor,a foodie and a traveller. The aroma of Popcorn ,the peculiar sensation of being in a darkened theatre, enjoying a Film, intrigues & gives me a reason to promote Pakistani Cinema.
