Box Office Update: ‘Ho Mann Jahaan’ crosses 10 crore mark in two weeks

After completing the first glorious week on the box office, Asim Raza’s coming of the age drama Ho Mann Jahaan did well in the second week as well. However, there was a significant decline in the number of screens and the occupancy in single and multi screen cinemas across the country.

The film crossed the 10 crore mark and became the 7th highest grossing film (domestic) at the end of the second week, surpassing Mahira Khan’s another film Bin Roye.

The domestic collections of two weeks grossed around 10.9 crore. These are considered as fairly decent and overall encouraging for the film which received generally positive reviews despite being over-stretched. The length of the film impacts the number of shows per screen and thus the collections directly.

The breakdown of the two week collections, compiled from the numbers shared by Box Office Detail, is given below:

  • Day 1 (Fri) – 1.4 crore
  • Day 2 (Sat) – 1.5 crore
  • Day 3 (Sun) – 1.25 crore
  • Day 4-7 (Mon-Thu) – 2.45 crore
  • Week 2 (Fri-Thu) – 4.32 crore
  • Total – 10.92 crore

The film received the lukewarm response in single screen cinemas in the second week but it kept the decent occupancy of around 60% in multiplexes, showing the downtrend from the first week but still good for such a long film. This trend will continue in the third week which will decisive about the lifetime collections of the film.

It will be interesting to see if Ho Mann Jahaan beats Yasir Nawaz’s Wrong Number by earning more than 15 crore and becomes the 4th highest grossing film. It looks like little difficult but adequately possible target for a multi-starer film which has names as big as Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan and Sonya Jahaan associated with it.

Haissam Hussain signs Osman Khalid Butt and Ainy Jaffri in ‘Balu Mahi’

The speculations of Haissam Hussain debuting at the cinema finally came to an end as the first film of the TV’s award winning director is announced along with its lead cast.

Haissam Hussain signed Osman Khalid Butt and Ainy Jaffri as the lead pair of his directorial debut Balu Mahi. The film is produced by Sadia Jabbar, the producer of popular TV serial Mera Naam Yusaf Hai [2015].

Haissam Hussain is the name behind many popular TV serials, like Dastaan, Dur-e-Shehwar, Aunn Zara, Aik Nayee Cinderella, Kuch Pyar Ka Pagalpan, Akbari Asghari and Ishq Ghumshuda. He has worked with both the established names of TV like Fawad Khan, Sanam Baloch and Imran Abbas and also the rising stars like Osman Khalid Butt and Maya Ali.

Balu Mahi was kept under wraps until a while ago when the name of the film was revealed. Since then the film pundits have been speculating about the lead actors of the film. Many were guessing it would be Osman Khalid Butt, which turned out to be a correct guess, as he has worked in two of his hit serials, Aik Nayee Cinderella and Aunn Zara. After winning the hearts in Pakistan, Aunn Zara became hugely popular in India as well when it was released on Zee Zindagi last year.

Osman Khalid Butt, alias OKB, is one of the young rising stars of the entertainment industry. He has earned a huge name and fanbase for himself in very short time. He started his career as a theater actor and then forayed into the modeling and acting on the TV (not to forget his popular v-log on Youtube and Humsafar and Maya Khan parodies). OKB also wrote the script of horror film Siyaa and upcoming Reham Khan’s Janaan.

Ainy Jafri, on the other hand, has done Humayun Saeed’s film Main Hoon Shahid Afridi earlier. She is also known for voicing the lead character of Emmy nominated animated TV series Burka Avenger.

The film was already in our list of expected releases of 2016. Check the complete list here: The ultimate guide to films expected to release in 2016

Box Office Update: ‘Ho Mann Jahaan’ completes a glorious weekend amid much fanfare

The first release of the year ‘Ho Mann Jahaan’ completes its first weekend gloriously amid all the fanfare. The film registers the third biggest weekend on the domestic box office, staying behind JPNA and Waar.

The film minted more than 4 crore on the box office in three days. The collections seem impressive for a Pakistani film sharing screens with two Bollywood biggies, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starer Dilwale and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani, running strong across the country even in the third week of their release.

The break down of day to day collections of HMJ, as reported by Box Office Details (BOD), is as follows:

  • Day 1 (Friday) – 1.4 crore
  • Day 2 (Saturday) – 1.5 crore
  • Day 3 (Sunday) – 1.25 crore
  • Total – 4.15 crore

Ho Mann Jahaan received favorable reviews from the critics and audience alike. The film is expected to have a strong Monday due to heavy advance bookings in the multiplexes. But, the fate of the film grossing in double digits will heavily depend on the coming days before entering the second week.

As we reported earlier, Revenge of the Worthless has been delayed again and not releasing on 15th, so there is no other Pakistani film releasing in next two weeks until Hijrat releases on 21st. If the audience likes the film and the word of the mouth plays its role, then film can continue its journey seamlessly. But, it is too early to say anything about the unpredictable business of cinema.

You may simply be thrilled to hear the news or you maybe wishing, ‘Oh God! Let this be a satire piece, let this not be real.’ But it’s happening, for real, at least as per Syed Noor.

Yes, Aamir Liaquat Hussain, the famous (or infamous) TV host – depends on which part of his television career highlight you are a fan of, is now going to come as hero on silver screen, in a Syed Noor film, against Saima.

Box Office Update: “Ho Mann Jahaan” frenzy continues on the second day

The frenzy of “Ho Mann Jahaan” continues on the second day of its release as the film grows stronger on the box office. The film which racked 1.4 crore on its first day of release (Friday) earned around 1.55 crore on the second day (Saturday), making its 2 day collections close to 2.95 crore. This is splendid, undoubtedly.

The rise in the collections can be attributed to the increase in the number of shows from 160 on day 1 to 195 on day 2 and high occupancy around 90% on day 2. Khurram Gultasab, General Manager Super Cinema, tweeted about the wonderful public response and increase in the number of shows for Saturday and Sunday in his cinemas.

Our friends at Box Office Detail are expecting the similar trend for the third day and estimating the total weekend collections will be close to the 4.5 crore mark.

GL Exclusive: ‘Revenge Of The Worthless’ gets postponed, yet again!

They say it’s not a Pakistani film unless it’s release date gets postponed a few times and going by this statement the upcoming film ‘Revenge Of The Worthless’ is as Pakistani as it gets. The film which was all set to release on January 15 has now been delayed and will be releasing sometime later this year. The reason our sources tell us is incomplete post production.

Then why is the Facebook page still promoting 15 January as the release date you ask? Well it’s the same film which once changed its release plans three days prior to a nationwide release! Yes, this Jamal Shah directorial was earlier all set release on May 22 2015 but then just three days prior to this date it was announced that due to the Zambabwe teams Pakistan tour the date is being changed.

Then there were rumours then that the film would be releasing in September but an official statement in December announced 15 January as the new date.

We at Galaxy Lollywood think that it’s better that the film is not releasing on 15 January considering ‘Ho Mann Jahaan’ just released and two Pakistani films releasing in such close proximity would have been harmful for both the films.

Now after yet another delay let’s see when the film finally hits cinemas. You stay tuned to Galaxy Lollywood for all updates.

Box Office Update: ‘Ho Mann Jahaan’ opens really well and has a fantabulous Day 1.

Although this should not come across as a surprise given the hysteria that surrounded the release of ‘Ho Mann Jahaan’ but for those living under a rock well here is news for you guys. The eagerly awaited film has scored extremely well at the box office on Day 1. The exact numbers you ask? Well if our friends at Box Office Detail are to be believed then the film has packed a 1.4 crore opening day figure which is HUGE.

Now the next question you’d ask is about the records. Well sadly the film has not managed to beat the opening day numbers of ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’ which with its 2.07 crore is still the biggest Pakistani opener at the local box office. But then comparing the two films doesn’t make much sense either. One is a hardcore commercial mass entertainer while the other has a more limited appeal for the masses. Furthermore when it comes to International releases in Pakistan there are quite a few films who have had bigger opening days so lets not get there.

But the real test for the film would be how it holds up in the coming few days as the word of mouth is extremely mixed. While some cannot stop raving about it others found it just okay. Lets see how it does in the next few days.
