“Dukhtar” is coming to cinemas this August and bringing GEO Films back to film distribution.

A poster

Come August and its sure to rain Pakistani films at local cinemas. First it was “Saltanat” which was all set to release on Eid, then came “Operation 021” on 14 August and “Na Maloom Afraad” which also releases in August , and now the latest to join this bandwagon is none other than “Dukhtar.”

The film which is set in the mountains of Pakistan, tells the story of  a mother and her ten year old daughter who flee their home on the eve of the girl’s marriage to a tribal leader which results in a deadly hunt. Produced by Muhammad Khalid Ali and written/directed by Afia Nathaniel, the film boasts of a stellar ensemble cast which includes the likes of  Samiya Mumtaz, Ajab Gul, Mohib Mirza, Omair Rana, Samina Ahmed,  Adnan Shah Tipu among others.

The theatrical trailer of “Na Maloom Afraad” is out and this one seems to be a winner!!!

A glimpse of Mehwish Hayat Khan's item number in the movie

The theatrical trailer of one of the most eagerly awaited films “Na Maloom Afraad” is out now for all to see.

Starring Fahad Mustafa, Javed Sheikh, Salman Shahid, Mohsin Abbas Haider, Urwa  Tul Wusqa the film is set  on  the streets of Karachi and going by the trailer this  will be a fun, entertaining roller coaster ride. The trailer gives you just a taste of what to expect from the film which is all set to release in August. The comic timing of the trio is amazing and deserves a mention  but what really caught my eye was the sneak peak of Mehwish Hayat’s item number ( which is also the featured photo of this post). It barely last 3 seconds but it’s Hot! Hot! Hot!

See the trailer here and also the screencaps I made of Mehwish Hayat’s hot dance number.

In Conversation with Omair Rana: Talking Tamanna, Pakistani Cinema and more

By Momin Ali Munshi

“Warning. Hot room, no power and the backup is not working” says Omair Rana as he welcomes me to his home on a Sunday afternoon. I step inside, he hands me a chilled glass of lemonade and we start our conversation. It is my first interview with the actor so we dont share much of a rapport but he makes sure that I am at ease and does a wonderful job at that. Now we have hardly been five minutes into the interview but I am already in a different world. Mesmerised by the dynamic personality I see in front of me a man who I believe was born to be an actor. The passion he has for his craft is un-matchable and the conviction in his voice is just amazing. Here are excrepts from our wonderful conversation

Momin Ali Munshi: Tamanna is in cinemas, how do you feel?

Omair Rana: Honestly now it just feels like another day. But the day the film released it was a big day as we delivered something we had started about five years ago and it finally saw completion. Now its just that people are being sweet and kind, congratulating us, being honest with the feedback, sending in positive messages and those who have not yet seen it are eager to get their hands on a ticket and I am trying to help them with that.

Shaan transforms looks for Yalgaar

Shaan's Look for Yalgaar (Delta.Echo.Foxtrot)

When Shaan at the start of this decade became the Mobilink man, it hit many as a big surprise. A surprise that the actor could be so humble, mellow and yet elegant in his role-doings that it made him stand apart from the loud traditional roles he was otherwise known for. That was probably the era that stamped Shaan being a widely sell-able face of the industry.

Pakistan Film Industry stands behind Operation Zarb-e-Azb

A film industry is a warrior within itself, it wages war against the foreign cultural invasion in any society and fights for your right to your own mannerisms, ethics and ethos. But the film industry is not in itself a thinking-being, it’s actually the intellectual cadre of this structure that makes it one such warrior.

Pakistan film industry with its reshaped identity is also lucky to have its own share of people who keep a certain vision for the local culture, homegrown stories and also the society on whole.

The bigger war, however, has started in the country; the war against insecurity, oppression and terrorism. The troops as always are there in the battlefield fighting this war for us, the entire military machine of Pakistan Armed Forces is at their disposal as a

‘Zikar’ from Kaptaan hits the soul right where it should

Honestly, we don’t know when the much delayed Imran Khan biopic, Kaptaan, will hit cinemas in Pakistan. The last we felt some activity in the production camp of the movie was a year ago, around the general elections of the country, things, since then, have been dead static as far as the production updates are concerned.

But with consistent updates regarding the music of the film, there remains a hope, hope that Kaptaan will someday soon progress to its release stage as well. The latest of such updates came a few months back on the Facebook page of the movie; releasing the second version of the soulful soundtrack from the film named, Zikar.
