Phaatak Bravely Exposes Dark, Taboo Underbelly Of Society

While most content bombards us with the same stale narratives, the youth mostly is in search of platforms that bring about entertaining and relatable content. Such an OTT platform that has emerged is Pikchur TV. The streaming platform was recently launched with an aim to bridge the gap between the youth and cinema. With the same aim in mind, the platform recently launched a new series, titled, Phaatak.

Streaming on Pikchur TV, Phaatak has been excellently directed by Sikandar Vincent Khan. Produced by Zayan Agha the series stars Sarmad Aftab Jadraan, Amna Ilyas, Saleem Meiraj, Sohail Sameer, Nayyar Ejaz, Saad Naseem, and Rubab Ali in pivotal roles.

Phaatak: The Story

Phaatak revolves around the life of Mani, a small drug peddler, who comes at a crossroads with the rest of the world after getting caught by the police. Once in the clutches of the inspector, Mani is manipulated by the officer to sell drugs for him. When free of him, Mani lands into further trouble when he comes face to face with another, bigger drug dealer. The story revolves around Mani’s struggle to free himself of their clutches and discover himself in the process. However, Mani alone isn’t the lead character because each and every character has a story of their own to tell.

Phaatak dares to tell the stories that occur behind closed doors of houses of the elite and those on the lower rungs of society.

The Review

Phaatak represents the dark and bitter side of our law enforcement agencies who, when they misuse their power, try to sweep everything under the rug. Phaatak takes a plunge and risks exposing the dirty underbelly of society. On the whole, nothing in Phaatak seems superficial. Instead of coming across as a fictitious story, Phaatak convinces its audience of its authenticity by bringing across a relatable story.

Sarmed Aftab Jadraan as Mani is not only superb, but very realistic and convincing. He convinces the audience of his emotions with just a few words. Saleem Meiraj makes an impact with his performance, while Amna Ilyas plays a powerful role delivering dialogues that are the crux of the entire show.
