The Nigar Awards Saga: It was the public who chose the nominations!

The Nigar Awards announced their nominations the other day and all hell broke loose!

Almost everyone from the industry, us included, could not stop talking about how unfit the nominations were, especially since they were nominations for the prestigious Nigar Awards. Journalists, bloggers and celebrities took to social media to comment on the nominations.

Read more: The Nigar Awards 2017 nominations have been revealed, and they’re funny!

We at Galaxy Lollywood talked to actress Noor Bukhari last night about her film ‘Ishq Positive’ being completely ignored by the awards as the film did not get a single nomination ( not even for Music!). Noor gave us a befitting reply when she mentioned this Punjabi idiom ‘ Bandar day hath maachis ditti , onhay pura pind jalataa’ ( You gave the monkey a match stick and he burned the entire village). Pretty self-explanatory no?

However, the entire Nigar Awards saga took a u-turn today as it was revealed through a press release that the nominations were chosen by the public and not by the jury! Basically, the readers of Nigar Weekly ( A film publication) sent in their preferences via coupons and its based on those preferences that the final nominations were made. Here’s what the press release says:

The Nigar Weekly’s readers choices were communicated to the committee through coupons published in Nigar which were filled by the readers and then sent to the committee. The nominations were finalized based on the readers’ selections which were thoroughly evaluated by the team of Nigar Awards.

And why no Punjabi film made the cut:

Last year, in 2016, a few Punjabi films were released, the quality of which were not up to the mark; therefore the readers did not show much interest in their nominations. Hence this year Punjabi films have not been included.

So this means that all the criticism the awards faced, and are still facing, should be directed toward towards the public and not the jury as we all thought!

What do you have to say about this development?

The Nigar Awards 2017 nominations have been revealed, and they’re funny!

Supposedly, the oldest and most credible awards for Pakistani Cinema, Nigar Awards are back in business!

The awards which first took place in 1957, were on a long hiatus after the last edition back in 2002, owing to the sad state of Pakistani Cinema. However, seeing the revival of Pakistani Cinema the awards are back on track and the 47th Nigar Awards 2017 are all set to take place in Karachi this March.

We at Galaxy Lollywood were particularly excited for the nominations reveal as we have heard so much about the honesty and credibility of the Nigar Awards and how much it means to win one. But we were rather disappointed after seeing the nomination list that came out today for according to us lots of deserving people have been snubbed and the nomination list is full of some rather interesting names.

Obviously, since we have our own Galaxy Lollywood Awards (Vote here) which we have been conducting for three years where we make the nominations and have the fans vote online for their favorites, we have our preferences and choices when it comes to who should and should not be nominated.

But we would really like to know what you thought of the Nigar Awards nominations. Here is the full list:

Guess What: Fahad Mustafa joins the cast of ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Aani 2’!

The multi-talented actor, host and producer, Fahad Mustafa, has big plans for this year. After blowing us away in critically-acclaimed ‘Mah e Mir’ and blockbuster ‘Actor in Law’ last year, the relentless Fahad Mustafa now joins the cast of multi-starer ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Aani 2’.

Yes! The sequel of biggest ever hit of Pakistani cinema, ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Aani’, is in making and going to hit the floors in March with some changes in the lead cast.

It should not be surprising that Hamza Ali Abbasi, who refused to take part in the promotions of prequel due to controversy surrounding his raunchy song, is no more part of the franchise. It is not clear if Fahad Mustafa will reprise his role or play a new character in ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Aani 2’.

While it is confirmed that the boys from the prequel sans Hamza will be part of the sequel, there has been no word on who the leading ladies will be. If Fahad Mustafa in the cast is any sign then we are definitely expecting a casting coup when it comes to the ladies.

We hope JPNA2 will be equally entertaining and records-smashing as the prequel. Stay tuned for more updates!

There’s a Pakistani film called ‘Whistle’ and it is releasing this Friday!

While we were all caught up with ‘Balu Mahi’ and ‘Thora Jee Le’ there was this other Pakistani film getting ready for release. Yes, there is a film called ‘Whistle’ and it is releasing this Friday, February 17! Honestly, we didn’t know much about the film too, so we decided to do some research and  this is what we found out.

Here is the poster

Looks pretty decent no? Farhan Ali Agha, Sohail Sameer, and Tatmain Ul Qulb definitely make for an interesting cast! Then we googled some more and came across the trailer.

The trailer

Ah well. Do we really need to comment on the trailer? Looks like another film which releases Friday and bids farewell to cinemas on Monday. If you think are being mean, check out this item number from the film called  ‘Phuljhari’

And don’t miss the title track

The film releases this Friday all over Pakistan. Let us know if you’ll be seeing it. We will check it out this Friday and do a review for you. Until then, Whistle Baja dey…

Balu Mahi (Review): 30 minutes too long but definitely worth seeing!

Movie Name: Balu Mahi

Release Date: Feb 10, 2017

Director: Haissam Hussain

Review by: Momin Ali Munshi

First things first: Balu Mahi is a visual treat.

The film has been shot so beautifully, with top notch cinematography, that it almost seems like a painting in motion at times. The frames are perfect, locations picturesque, and add to that the ridiculously good-looking main leads with the talented director at command and voila you have a dazzling display of art at your disposal.

But while the film was all charming, it does test your patience, especially in the second half which seems never ending. Quite frankly, editing has never been a strong feature of our films, but Balu Mahi just takes it to another level with the mess that we saw post interval. Had the editing been crisp and the screenplay better this film would definitely become the benchmark for technically sound cinema.

However not all is lost, as the film is backed by strong performances from the lead actors, the music is another plus, dialogues are funny (barring the low brow humor at times) and generally the film is an entertaining watch which has you hooked from the word go.

The film opens with a wedding sequence where we see Balu (Osman Khalid Butt) supposedly pouring his heart out to his girlfriend whom he wants to marry. But turns out he has the venue all wrong and the bride he just confessed his love to was Mahi (Ainy Jaffri), who sees this as an opportunity to escape a marriage she never wanted, so decides to make a run for it. And thus begins the cat mouse chase called ‘Balu Mahi’.

There was a lot of criticism surrounding the film that it’s a ‘Jab We Met’ rehash and that it is inspired by a few other films, prominently recent Pakistani release ‘Ishq Positive’, but while it did play on a set of tropes that are common for romantic comedies, it did have a distinct feel to it. Especially the second half, which is as Pakistani as it gets!

Coming to the acting department, Osman and Ainy fit the titular roles like a glove. It seems as if the film had been written specifically for the two of them because Osman as the confused London return Balu and Ainy as the vivacious Mahi just brighten the screen with their presence. However, at some points, the duo does appear under-rehearsed but given its their first film (ignoring Ainy’s forgettable role in MHSA) they definitely make the audiences sit up and take notice. Moreover, Osman is one of the few actors who actually knows how to shake a leg. His moves in the song ‘Balu Mahi’, choreographed brilliantly by Wahab Shah, are just too good.

Moving on, the supporting actors also help the film big time and everyone delivers. Sadaf as the seductive Sharmeen definitely looks and acts the part, while also succeeds in eliciting laughter with her witty one-liners. Durdana Butt as the hilarious Dado, Shafqat Cheema as the overbearing Chaudhary and Mustafa with his goofy friend act, all add to the film. Javaid Sheikh and Hina Rizvi appear just for one sequence (which seems to be a blatant copy from Ishq Positive) but they definitely register their entries. All in all the acting was a plus!

As for the music, I felt that it could have been better. The title track ‘Balu Mahi’ unfortunately was the weakest link and despite the brilliant performance by Osman and Ainy the song just did not generate the impact. However, the other three songs were all just perfect. Its rather difficult to pick a favorite for “Rang De Chunar” by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, “Bechaniyaan” by Sahir Ali Bhagga/Afshan Fawad and “Tu Kya Jaane” by Sahir Ali Bhagga were all brilliantly composed, shot and placed in the film. I definitely felt that there could have been another party/wedding number featuring the trio at the end or maybe a seductive/comedy number featuring Sadaf and Osman. Also, I don’t know whether there was an issue with DHA Cinema Lahore or whether there was a technical issue with the surround sound because the dialogues and background score was a bit all over the place.

The director, as mentioned in the beginning, has done a commendable job with the direction department in ‘Balu Mahi’. I specifically want to mention that Old Lahore has never looked this beautiful and its all thanks to Haissam Hussain!

But while visually it was all perfect I did feel that the screenplay and story kind of dampened the impact, specifically in the second half. Without getting into spoilers all I’ll say is that there is no explanation given as to what transpired between the intermission and second half with Ainy’s character and we just seem to be in the middle of the action. Moreover, there are a few loose ends, prominently that of Ainy’s mother, which are never really tied.

But if you ignore these tiny errors the film succeeds in providing you wholesome entertainment and is definitely worth seeing.

Thora Jee Le (Review): A heartfelt effort goes amiss

Movie Name: Thora Jee Le

Release Date: Jan 20, 2017

Director:  Rafay Rashdi

Review by: Momin Ali Munshi

When the first trailer of ‘Thora Jee Le’ came out, I was excited. Excited, because the film would bring with itself a pool of new talent and honestly the trailer seemed promising enough for a film that featured all newbies. Furthermore, after having had a conversation with the cast and crew of the film, seeing their enthusiasm and learning of all the hard work put behind the film, let’s just say I was rooting for the film to do well.

The film premiered in Karachi a few days later and the internet was flooded with negative reviews. ‘It may crush your will to live’ was one of the review titles so you can imagine how bad things were. But being someone who forms an opinion only after having seen the film myself, I paid no heed to these reviews and went straight to the cinema to experience ‘Thora Jee Le’. So was the film as bad as the reviews?

The answer is both yes and no.

What I saw in the cinema as a final product was definitely way below my expectations or for that matter any cinemagoers expectations. There was a MAJOR issue with sound, acting was weak and the plot seemed to be all over the place. Had this film released a few years back, we would have celebrated it, but cinema in Pakistan is improving by leaps and bounds and hence a film with many loopholes can’t really get the audience’s appreciation.

However having said that it is also worth mentioning that the film was not all bad and definitely had its redeeming points. The film does tackle quite a few issues, albeit half-heartedly, which haven’t been seen on the silver screen before. So the director does deserve some credit for that. Also, the cinematography of the film deserves a mention, especially after having seen films in the past where color grading seemed like an alien concept, it was nice to see the beautifully shot sequences.

Basically, the film tells the story of six college friends who reunite when one of them has a serious drug overdose incident. The six then decide to take a road trip and go stay at the farmhouse of one of the friends. It’s there that ghosts from the past ( some actual ghosts too) show up and the story moves ahead.

While the main premise in itself seemed decent it was the poor execution that made the film lose its charm. First and foremost the biggest issue which I felt was that there was no background score. Yes, other than the dialogues on the screen there was no other sound to be heard. There were a few sequences where the choral pieces were there but for the most part, it was just silence and that was rather annoying.

As for the acting, well the less I say the better. Other than Ramsha Khan and Bilal Abbas every actor fails in one way or the other. While someone is too loud and over the top, the other is expressionless and let’s just say the acting department was not really a forte for the film.

Talking about the main premise, well I’m sure that on paper it was a great idea, but unfortunately, it couldn’t really translate well onto the screen. The pace of the film is questionable, the film is full of bantering between the friends which does nothing to move the story forward and generally it’s all over the place. The film was definitely an ambitious attempt by the makers to highlight the issues faced by the youth but somewhere along the way it got derailed and the heartfelt effort went amiss.

Get ready for sweet treat of ‘Cake’ starring Adnan Malik, Aamina Sheikh and Sanam Saeed

February has been highly active for Pakistan Film Industry so far, as new films keep appearing on the horizon one after the other. Earlier this month the teaser of soon-to-be-released ‘Azaadi’ was released by ARY Films. It was followed by the announcement of two other films ‘Maan Jao Na’ by Crew Motion Pictures and ‘Wajood’ by Javed Sheikh.

And earlier this week, another interesting project, with equally interesting title and cast, is announced in Karachi. The film titled ‘Cake’ – as its “story has many layers” – is being directed by UK based filmmaker Asim Abbasi.

The cast of the film includes director/actor/host Adnan Malik, who is debuting at the silver screen with this film, and gorgeous ladies Sanam Saeed and Aamina Sheikh, who stunned us with their performance on the big screen in their earlier projects.

The director of the film, Asim Abbasi, is also debuting at Pakistani cinema with ‘Cake’. He is known for making award-winning short films in abroad, most notably ‘Little Red Roses’ and ‘Whore’.

‘Cake’ has already completed its spell in Karachi and the rest of the shoot will take place in interior Sindh and UK soon. The film is targeted to release by end of this year or early next year.

Get ready for some sweet treat, folks!

Rapid Fire with the cast of Balu Mahi

The leading pair of upcoming film ‘Balu Mahi’ recently visited Lahore for the promotions and we managed to get a one on one session with the pair where we put them on the spot and asked them some super fun questions. Here is the Rapid Fire session we did with the cast. Enjoy!

( We have not edited the interview much as we wanted you, the readers, to get the original flavor of the conversation)

If you could be invisible which actor/actress would you stalk?

Osman: Deepika Padukone. I would go full-on R-rated with that shit man.

Ainy: Meryl Streep, might be boring but she is a brilliant actress.

Osman:  *coughs* And Osman Khalid Butt!

Ainy: Iss ko toh mey already stalk kerti hun bus issko pata nahi hai . Apparently, I am very good.

If not acting , what alternate career choices should the following people pick:

-Humaima Malick

Osman: Like a lifestyle guru, she should have her own goop style blog ( Goop is a weekly lifestyle publication, curated by Gwyneth Paltrow)

Bilal Ashraf

Osman: Modelling.

Ainy: Yeah, modelling.

-Ainy Jaffri/Osman Khalid Butt

Osman: Ainy, a fitness guru.

Ainy: Osman is so multi-talented, he could be a journalist, he wants to direct as well. He already has five six million things that he wants to do, so woh kuch bhi kerley ga.

-Hareem Farooq

Osman: Hmm… she should be a talk show host.

Ainy: Producer maybe?

-Danish Taimoor

Osman: Like a gym owner, a trainer.

Who in this industry is someone you get along with so well that you would even call them at 4 a.m?

Osman: Maya Ali

Ainy: I would call Obi, we have spent the whole year together.

What is the craziest thing a fan has done for you?

Osman: Uhh, stolen my boxers. Yup, they were stolen backstage during a theatrical performance, somebody just came and because I had to change into this robe I rushed out and when I came back my boxers were gone.

Ainy: Done for me? Umm they have rather requested me to sign their shaved heads and their chests and that too at the airport. That was a bit strange but nothing super crazy, some fans sent me gifts but that’s normal.

What’s the meanest thing anyone has ever said about you as an actor?

Osman: That I can’t act! I mean it always hurts specially the long passages that people have written on how exactly is it I don’t know how to act but obviously being in the public eye you have to take this with a pinch of salt right.

Ainy: That she is expressionless!

If one day you woke up and you were one of the following people, what would you do?

Mahira Khan

Osman: I would call up Shahrukh and have like a very intimate conversation about his life because I want to know more about the man behind the facade, and I am sure that she has had that privilege during the shooting of Raees.

Ainy: I will be like tumey itni khoobsurat lagney ka koi haq nahi hai, not fair.

Feroze Khan

Osman: Probably take my shirt off and stare at my perfect body and take ten thousand selfies and upload them and be like FK Power.

Sohai Ali Abro

Osman: I would dance, I would dance like nobody is watching cause I think she is a phenomenal dancer.

Hamza Ali Abbasi

Osman: Delete my facebook account.

Ainy: I would stop writing such long facebook statuses.

What is the funniest rumour you have heard about yourself?

Osman: That I am married  to Maya and have two healthy kids .There was also this article that came out  saying Osman Khalid Butt enjoying with Maya and his children! Meiney apney director ka bacha pakra hua tha apney haath mey and somebody said that it was my kid. This was hilarious! Infact I just came to Lahore, my entire family lives here, so I came yesterday after a whole days worth of promotions and they were like acha tum Dubai gaye huey they na Maya Ali key sath apni shaadi ki shopping kerney key liye I was like I went to Dubai for the promotions of my movie, I didn’t go to Dubai to do my marriage shopping just because I took a picture outside Pull and Bear that doesn’t mean that I was shopping for somebody’s dowry.

Ainy: That I have a daughter and I am divorced. And now I think yeh toh phir bus kisi ka agenda hai key sab key bachein hain.

Kill, Marry, Befriend?

Mehwish Hayat, Mawra Hocane, Sajal Aly.

Osman: Marry Sajal, Befriend Mehwish because I don’t know her, Mawra toh meri purani dost hai toh kill her.

Bilal Ashraf, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Shehryar Munawar.

Ainy: I am already married so I don’t want to marry anyone, Befriend Shehreyar, Kill Nobody.

Two or three Worst things about your co-star?

Osman: In the first spell right before every shot Ainy would take a 15 min break to go to the washroom, so waiting in the cold would be kind of tough, umm… what else? Uh I think it’s a challenge working with her, I am quite jealous because you know we share alot of screen space and you know there’s this competition going on key scene kis ney ley liya and I think she has won that battle more times than I have and that as an actor you get very frustrated with like when somebody else steals your scene. The third thing is more of an envy thing like I envy how straight forward she is and how she doesn’t mince her words I am not like that so yeah you kind of hate the positives about other people too.

And as for Sadaf, one thing that I hate about Sadaf? Key yar woh toh superstar hai, humey subah uthna perta hai ussey nahi uthna perta so you know woh apney time ki maalik hai.

Ainy:  Osman is very self deprecating matlab he criticizes himself alot.

What is the worst fashion choice you have ever made?

Osman: So whenever I get out of the house I have a style that I describe as hobo chic so you know I am wearing mismatched pajamas and chappals aur wahan pey rastey mey koi miljata hai and you know my hair is all messed up and somebody is like selfie I am like han han sure and you know when I look at myself in the selfie I am like WTF? so yeah you know it’s very hard this balancing act where you are kind of trying to have a public image as well and yet stay true to yourself.

Ainy: Yar I make them all the time, there are too many, when I am in a rush I just put on anything like my pyjamas, I go out in my night suit alot.

What is the one advise you follow in your professional life?

Osman: Be professional, it seems like a cliched answer but trust me it’s hard in this industry and I suppose another thing is that I don’t fall into the trap of politics whether it’s petty politics because all that does is waste time because instead of thinking work you’re thinking  oh XYZ said this. Actually this is something I struggle with but now it’s been like 2017 resolution of mine that you know no more. I would not even entertain these thoughts, for me I think in this industry the biggest advice you could give anybody is be ignorant cause ignorance is a bliss. Focus on your work and that’s it.

Ainy: It’s a never ending learning process, you know you’re always learning.

What’s your geatest insecurity as an actor?

Osman: Umm it’s something that always remains in, like every time I give a shot and the director says it was very good let’s move on, I always think that I could have done a fifty thousand times better job than what I did, so the worst thing is, I start overthinking about it and when you’re supposed to go home and relax and de-stress I go like yar uss scene mey uss shot mey meiney yeh q nahi kiya.

Ainy: It’s to be believable as an actor well no that’s not my greatest insecurity it’s my lack of thinking in Urdu because 90 percent of the work I do is in Urdu and I wish that I also thought in Urdu, it is improving with time but I need a stronger grasp on it.

Among the recent Pakistani releases, which role do you think you could have performed better?

Osman: Armeena in Janaan. On a serious note I think everyone has done a fantastic job somebody asked me this question before too and I said Adeel Hussain from Ho Mann Jahaan and you know the reason for that is, you have seen Ho Mann Jahaan right so his character goes through this very major change, he quits the band right and then he finds out that the band has got this big break with coke studio so I have been in that spot, not exactly the same but I have quit something and found out that that thing has gotten suddenly very huge and I have been on the other side as well I have had people quit my play and then had a huge outcome so I feel I have kind of lived that, that particular plot line.

Ainy:  Armeena’s role in Janaan. Uh shit she’s a friend.Do you guys agree? I dont know. Yeah definitely but no wait should I change this I feel bad. She will hate me, we’re friends. :/

Do you have any hidden talents?

Osman: Well I don’t think anything is hidden anymore but I think I am a quite skilled pole dancer.

Ainy: Oh by the wayI am a good dancer too, is that hidden? did anybody know? oh and I also know gymnastics.

How do you balance work and your professional life?

Osman: I suppose mera toh yeh hai key I live in Islamabad so I do a project whether it’s Karachi or Lahore or wherever mey wapis islamabad bhaag jata hun so you know I have my friends there my family there, my loved ones are there so that’s what I do basically the second my project finishes I just go back to Islamabad and reconnect with everyone and I think that’s what keeps me grounded as well.

If you could time travel would you go to the past or future? and why?

Osman: I would go to the future man, past is the past, we know about it. We watch series like Outlander and god knows how many period pieces so I think the future is something that is unknown, I would like to witness that.

Ainy: I would go to the future, I have made alot of mistakes in my past but I have no regrets so everything has led me to today so I am happy with the way things have been in the past,uh well I wouldn’t even go to the future I like surprises and I am happy living in the moment.

Money or Fame?

Osman: Fame. Neither actually. Umm a good role.

Ainy: Money.

How important are your fans for you? How do you connect with them?

Osman: I think I am pretty cool with my interaction with fans since my Youtube days, like I respond to comments on Instagram on Facebook generally whether it’s praise or critique. I am generally very open to both. Umm jo log post bhi banatay hain instagram pey the collages that they make all the oboholics and the osmayas so yeah I think I have fun interacting with fans. It humanizes you like woh aik parda hath jata hai, where you’re not just this unattainable object. You’re real human being like I share my flaws,so like  I will post an awkward picture of myself and you know have a funny caption out there so I think that kind of works. That’s my personality, I don’t put up any airs or affectations for my public persona.

Ainy: They are everything, they’re very very important. I mean they are the reason behind all our hardwork. Well they are just very important!

What advise would you give youngsters wishing to join the industry as an actor?

Osman: Always believe in yourself because nobody else is going to believe in you and if you don’t believe in yourself then don’t expect the world to believe in you. Project self confidence, work at your craft always, never become complacent, never think acha mey pohanch gaya hun cause that’s where the downfall will begin. Always strive to take positive criticism and critique from people because that’s how you will grow as an individual.

Ainy: Just be ready for perseverance and hard work. It’s not all glitz and glam as a alot of people they see the glamorous side when we are infront of the camera, taking photos and stuff, they don’t see the hardwork and sweat and tears that go on behind the screens .

Also would want to ask the parents and guardians please let your younger generation enter  this field because the thing that hurts me alot is that people of a slightly older generation even my own parents and family think there is this negative connotation when it comes to media and that is very prevalent in all standards of society.

Recently mujhe aik baat achi nahi lagi thi, there was this women who was like acha app film mey arahi hain, app hamay bohat pasand hain and then she turned around to her friend and I don’t know how to speak punjabhi but I understood she said Hayee Bichari pata nahi kis kaamon mey lag gayi hai and I understood every word and I was like you are appreciating what I am doing at the same time you’re insulting me for it. Don’t watch tv. You know you guys watch dramas, it’s the ladies of the country actually and that’s why dramas are mostly female oriented. This is something very important that I want to get out. You know they watch it, they celebrate it and at the same time they curse us and the hypocrisy is mind boggling but it’s there. I think everybody knows it key aye haye acting kerna hai nahi baita yeh hogha, log aisey sochein gey so this is just something that hurts me as that we work as hard as anybody else! I think if you’re good and you treat people well and you act respectively in your profession people will do the exact same with you. Jaisa app kertey hain waisey hi app key sath hogha, burey aur achey log har industry mey hotey hain.

And on that note, the Rapid Fire comes to an end. The film hits cinemas this friday guys! We cant wait to see the film and already have our tickets booked. What about you? Let us know what you think, in the comments section.

Box Office Update : ‘Thora Jee Le’ ends its box office run with a depressing total tally!

We cannot vouch for the authenticity of these box office numbers given by independent box office tracking site Box Office Detail. However, until we have some official box-office tracking system in Pakistan this is all we have got. Also, the numbers are revised at times and hence you may observe fluctuations.

Box office can be a very unpredictable thing!

When ‘Thora Jee le’ released on January 20, it surprised everyone by pulling in decent numbers on the first weekend. The film which does not feature many known faces made 25 lakhs in the first three days and that was a strong start indeed.

But unfortunately, the film could not sustain the numbers when the weekend ended and slowly and gradually died away at the box office. It is worth mentioning that the large opening was partially obtainable since Hollywood biggie XXX also released the same day and brought with itself strong footfalls which helped ‘ Thora Jee Le’. But as XXX saw a decline in its own numbers as the weekend ended, it obviously meant trouble for ‘Thora Jee Le’ too.

Although a clear day to day report has not been released but as per Box Office Detail, a total tally of 35 lakhs is the final end of run number for the film.

Asma Nabeel talks about upcoming youth based rom-com ‘Maan Jao Naa’

Another youth based rom-com Maan Jao Naa is in making and have the right reasons to be excited for it. The film, with the lineup of young and fresh cast and a surprise international star, is being made by Crew Motion Pictures, the makers of critically acclaimed Dukhtar (2014).

The script of Maan Jao Naa is co-written by Asma Nabeel and Ahsan Raza Firdousi. The film is directed by Abis Raza and produced by Muhammad Khalid Ali.

The film’s cast includes young stars Adeel Chaudary, Hajra Yamin, Ayaz Samoo and Ghana Ali and veterans Asif Raza Mir and Asma Abbas. One of the female leads, whose name is kept under wraps for now, is an international artist who has also worked in Bollywood (any guess guys?).

We spoke with Asma Nabeel, COO/Head of Films, Crew Motions Pictures, about the project and surprise cast member. She refused to give deets on the lady but promised “it will be a pleasant surprise”. She also shared that “a fresh wave is all set to hit the silver screen.” (excited?)

Asma Nabeel is an eminent name of the marketing and advertisement world in Pakistan. After making a dent there and bagging several accolades, including Femina Unstoppable Woman by Femina Middle East and Pond’s Miracle Woman to name a few, the multi-talented Asma is focusing on writing scripts for TV and cinema these days in addition to spearheading the film division of Crew Motion Pictures.

On experience of working with the young cast in Maan Jao Naa, Asma shared, “I am very happy to have the young talent with us. They are dedicated, hardworking and the viewers can see the hard work on the screen and they will love them too. The industry needs fresh blood and it’s extremely important that we as film makers welcome the young talent.”

She further shared that the film is being shot in Pakistan and it is tentatively scheduled to release in between Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-al-Azha.

She also gave details on the film’s music, an important part of rom-coms. “Our utmost effort in everything what so ever we are doing for the film is to make it really filmy and big. The amazing Shuja Haider and very talented Asim Raza from Lahore, both have done amazing melodies for the film,” revealed Asma.
