Super Cinema chain expands and Sialkot gets its first Digital 3D Cinema.

by Momin Ali Munshi

We at Galaxy Lollywood have always maintained that for the film industry to prosper, for it to truly reach its maximum potential,  the cinema industry must also prosper. Looks like Super Cinema has geared up and taken it upon itself to revolutionize the cinema industry of Pakistan. They started with three screens in Lahore’s  “Royal Palm Club”, then moved to the traditional “Lakshmi Chowk” and modernized the “Shabbistan” and “Prince” Cinema  and topped it all with opening up a multiplex cinema in the heart of Lahore “Gulberg.” Now after having completely taken over Lahore, Super Cinema is ready to take over Pakistan and the first destination is Sialkot!

Yes! All you Sialkoti’s can rejoice as Super Cinema is now operating in your own city with all the luxurious facilities that Super Cinema is known for! We contacted Super Cinema Editor and Relationship Executive Anam Raheel and tried to get all the scoop on this latest cinema.Talking exclusively to Galaxy Lollywood Anam said :-

‘Dukhtar’ release date gets postponed; Will not be hitting cinemas this Independence Day!

by Momin Ali Munshi

What do you think is common in all our Pakistani films these days? Yes, I know that almost all of them are backed by ARY Films but what else comes to your mind? Well there is one very important feature that distinguishes Pakistani films from all other films. This one aspect is almost a must, for a film to be termed as a Pakistani film.Stop scratching your heads as the answer to the question is that a film must have at least one postponement (more are always welcome) in its release date to be termed as a true Lollywood film!

Don’t agree with me? Let me take out my diary and give you some examples. “Waar” changed release dates almost every other month, “Zinda Bhaag” got postponed, so did “Tamanna”, “Bol” was moved quite a few times. Hell, the next big budget Pakistani film “Operation 021” has been postponed twice already! So now that this has been established let me move to the news.

Breaking! Ashir Azeem of ‘Dhuwan’ returns in Yalgaar

by Aayan Mirza

One of the best childhood TV memories for some, and a PTV classic to others, Dhuwan remains an important and a well cherished chapter of Pakistan’s entertainment history. The TV serial, though, lived a life of mere thirteen episodes, but those well executed thirteen episodes shot many of its names to some instant fame, TV actor Nabeel being one.

Chambaili in USA, Waar on TV

by Aayan Mirza

The year 2013 in Pakistan film industry is majorly known for three big films, Waar, Main Hoon Shahid Afridi and Chambaili. While Main Hoon Shahid Afridi was pretty swift on its reach to public; the most recent example of that being its TV premiere on Eid, Waar and Chambaili took their time and have comparatively tested the anxiety of fans a little more, the latter specially.

While Waar has travelled a good deal abroad, Chambaili has merely screened in U.K outside Pakistan, besides, of course being screened in variety of film festivals. The major reason for this slow public reach-out, as revealed by Shahzad Nawaz in his recent interview with Galaxy Lollywood, is Geo Films’ failure as the international distributors of Chambaili. “…they failed as our distributors abroad…so we bought those rights back from Geo films, and released it in UK on our own.” Shahzad said asnwering a particular question in the interview.

Sultanat (Review) : This three hours worth of torture should be avoided at all costs says Momin Ali Munshi

Movie Name:Sultanat

Release Date: 29 July 2014

Director: Syed Faisal Bukhari

Review by: Momin Ali Munshi

Rating: 1/5 stars

Ever since the film “Sultanat” has released, the general public has been divided into two very strong groups with opposing viewpoints on the quality of the film. So before I get to the review, let me very necessarily be a little self descriptive as I assume that some of you might already have your knives pointed at me after reading the title of this post.  The fact is that I love Masala entertainers! I love films with glamour, latka jhatakas, exotic locations, and a great cast. But according to this logic “Sultanat” should have had a raving review from me, right? Also, Why I have mentioned all this information about myself you ask? Well here goes.

As I have previously mentioned in almost all of my reviews, Pakistani Films, today, cater to two very different markets. There are the social drama/high concept films which I call “multiplex wali film” and then there are the masala entertainers which I call “circuit ki film”. For example the recently released film “The System” was a “circuit ki film” while the other recently released film “Tamanna” was a “multiplex wali film”. It’s pretty much a fact that the audience of one kind of cinema does not like the film made for the other audience and vice versa. However, every once in a while there comes a “Bol” or a “Waar” which changes the rules and is termed as a game-changer, but other than that the rules I mentioned are very much intact.

Oscars 2015 : The race for the “Foreign Language Film Award” begins in Pakistan…

By: Momin Ali Munshi

While the Academy Awards ( Oscars) will take place in February 2015, but the competition has already started. Film gurus have already started predicting the nominations and the buzz is building up as the days pass. However, there is only one award that matters the most to us Pakistanis  and that is the “Foreign Language Film Award”. It’s that very award which always leads to many controversies and always gets the most headlines here in Pakistan. If you remember, the Pakistani Academy Selection Committee selected “Zinda Bhaag” as the first Pakistani film in over fifty years to be submitted for Oscar consideration in the ‘Foreign Language Film Award’ category. However, this news lead to quite a few controversies and was talked about for months! Dont remember what happened last year? (Read all about it here)

Shahzad Nawaz: The trout fighting out the odds! (Interview)

By: Aayan Mirza

‘It must be something about his new movie,’ I thought when I didn’t receive the answers to the questions I had prepared for this interview. And it was, it was about his next film. It was only when the anxiousness started biting us off that I thought of contacting Shahzad for final…and there he told me, he told me he was busy with his new film, showed me a thick, blue binding of the final version of the screenplay he had just completed an hour ago. Five in the morning the same day, he sat with me on Skype and we finally did the interview. Here it is.

The start came naturally, I have been following Shahzad Nawaz for quite some time now, as far as his television appearances are concerned at least, although he later told me I hadn’t been following him enough in response to a particular question. Anyway, it is his title of ‘Change artist’ that has always intrigued me, I asked him to shed a little light on it, asked him whether he considered himself a revolution agent in Pakistan Film industry?

Sultanat is the luckiest Pakistani film to come out in ages! Want to know why? Read on…

Eid-ul-fitr is round the corner ( well its tomorrow to be exact) and this can mean only one thing at the box office. War! Eid-ul-fitr is perhaps the holiest day for our film-makers and everyone wants their films to hit cinemas on Eid. And why wouldn’t they? The Eid festivities with the holidays , almost always guarantee a bumper opening at the box-office and who would want to miss that! Thus every year, when Eid comes about , all our Lollywood- wallahs decide to bring out their films from the old tainted cans to the shining silver screens!

While Lollywood is churning out its films , our neighboring country India always sends an export , which is usually a multi-crore Khan starrer film, and this poses some serious threat to our local films. But Eid openings are so huge that almost every one is accommodated, even the Hollywood biggies which are usually a part of this mix! But usually its Bollywood vs Lollywood and though our Lollywood does make money, but it always suffers at the hand of Bollywood!

Ali Zafar wears hat of a director

by Zeeshan Mahmood

The multi-talented singer turned actor Ali Zafar has embarked into a new journey of directing a short film. Zafar shared a picture on a popular micro-blogging website Twitter, from the set of his debut directorial project captioning “at my set as director”.

The details of the project are not yet revealed except that it is a short film as informed by Zafar himself in a tweet to Ali Abbas Zafar, director of his Bollywood film Mere Brother Ki Dulhen. Ali Abbas Zafar showed his concern in a light-hearted way about the potential confusion which would originate between two directors who shared the similar names.
