A quick chat with Afia Nathaniel: Dukhtar’s ‘Iron Lady’

By Momin Ali Munshi

Final Editing: Aayan Mirza

A few weeks back I was interviewing Omair Rana, and during the course of the interview Omair mentioned that he had shot for this one film and was particularly excited for it to release. What is it called I asked him? And he replied with the name, Dukhtar. That was the first time this particular name fell to my ears, and believe me, it has stuck in my head ever since.

A few days after the interview I saw Dukhtar’s poster in the newspapers which mentioned that the film would be releasing on August 14, and the poster was quite interesting to say the least! Then out came the teaser trailer which won everyone over. While the teaser hadn’t yet lived its life to full, the theatrical trailer which featured a plethora of famous actors came out, and well, it won us over again. Go to the start of this year and there was no name of this film, just in past few weeks, Dukhtar has generated a commendably huge buzz and come into the limelight!

Interviewing Imran Abbas: Talking about his up-coming film with Bipasha Basu, his future, and why we havent seen him yet in Lollywood.

Interview Conducted by Hasnat Afridi
Final Editing by Momin Ali Munshi

Imran Abbas is a pretty well known face in Pakistan. Having done superhit drama serials like ‘Khuda aur Muhabbat’  ‘Akbari Asghari’ among others , he is surely a  household name. Known for his chocolate-hero looks, Imran last gave a memorable performance in the Tarang  Housefull Telefilm ‘Anjuman’ alongside Sara Loren. Now call it luck or a mere coincidence but both of these Pakistani stars , who starred in Ajuman , are trying to make it big in Bollwood.  While Sara has already made her Bollywod debut via ” Murder 3 ” Imran shall soon be making his debut in the eagerly awaited film “Creature 3D.” This  film sees our very own Imran Abbas alongside the Bollywod bombshell Bipasha Basu and it has been generating quite the buzz ever since photos from the sets came out!

Mystically vocalled ‘Ya Rahem, Maula Maula’ (OST Dukhtar) released

It was waited, anticipated, and now it’s here. The first song out of Dukhtar’s music line-up, Ya Rahem, Maula Maula, vocally aided by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and composed by Sahir Ali Bagga has been released with a visually aiding footage from the film.

The lyrics are as beautiful as they could get and the melody with its overall structure nicely complements them.

Dukhtar releases on the 14th of this August and stars Samiya Mumtaz, Mohib Mirza, Ajab Gul and Saleha Arif in prominent roles.

Listen and Enjoy!

Yalgaar to bring Swat operation in light

Left to Right - Hassan Waqas Rana, Shaan Shahid, Sana Bucha and Bilal Ashraf

So what has Dr. Hassan Waqas Rana (Doc) established in Pakistan film industry so far? Big budgets, hype, helicopters and quality deliverance. That’s right, Waar proved it when it became Pakistan’s biggest film ever in terms of everything it had in the offering, and now it’s Doc’s upcoming projects showing the same magic. Sold already! No need to make sense about them to distributors, exhibitors and to a good extent, the audience. They already have carved their particular space.

Yalgaar – alternatively known as Delta.Echo.Foxtrot in some circles- is Hassan Waqas Rana’s next genie. Why do I call it a genie? Well, because a film with a budget of over fifty crores, one fifty written characters, Shaan, Humayun Saeed, Ayub Khoso and Adnan Siddiqui in prominent screen space, and new film identities like Ayesha Omer, Bilal Ashraf, Sana Bucha, Umair Jaswal and Armeena Khan all there together to leave you wonderstruck, simply cannot be under-served with a title of inferior meaning.

Dukhtar releases it’s theatrical trailer and it’s a visual treat full of familiar faces giving stellar performances.

Yes! It’s official. The trailer of Dukhtar is for sure one of the most exciting ones to come out of our industry in recent times and we cannot stop gushing over it. From the very first dialogue you are captivated by this world you are seeing and as a viewer you feel quite invested in the story( and managing to do that in a 2 min trailer is surely a feat!). Kudos to Afia Nathaniel, the writer/director for choosing such a controversial topic and filming it with such perfection and not letting it seem like a documentary.
